HO / Bachmann HO (DCC) Shay locomotive - gearing issue
February 06, 2016, 04:40:54 PM
I have two Bachmann HO (DCC) Shay locomotives. They are beautiful models but both succumbed to the same terminal issue ... the gearing on the main drive breaks loose and the mechanism simply spins without operating. These are plastic gears and I understand that the problem was so significant that another manufacturer developed metal gears to replace them. I do not know how to obtain them. Have any of you had similar problems with your Bachmann Shay locomotives and what did you do to remedy them? The product is no longer offered by Bachmann and I would suspect that quality is an issue. Thanks for your help and ideas.

HO / Re: Decoder settings

Thanks so much everyone. Yes, I have the standard Bachmann decoders in all of these locos. I am using the MRC Prodigy Advanced 2 as my system. I don't know if that affects any of your feedback. But, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me anyway. You are what model railroading is all about.

HO / Decoder settings
August 12, 2011, 07:05:34 PM
Would anyone be kind enough to share their decoder settings for the Bachmann GP-35, RS 3 and Consolidation? I am specifically looking for start, max and associated setting. Thank you in advance, I would be most appreciative of your input.

Jeff, after wiring, you you need to replace the bulbs with 14V grain of wheat bulbs?

HO / DCC from RS-3 to Bachman GP 35
June 26, 2011, 09:12:02 PM
Friends...
Will the DCC board on the Bachmann RS3 work on the non-DCC Bachmann GP-35? Any thoughts on making the GP 35 DCC in a more friendly manner?

Thank you, Jim, that was very helpful. So, the GP-35 is not really DCC friendly, it requires a total, from scratch, conversion.

I have a Bachmann Western Maryland GP-35 (Item 11518). Can someone tell me if this model is DCC friendly and what is the appropriate decoder to purchase for this conversion. My DCC system is MRC Prodigy Advance 2. Thank you very much for your help.
