HO / Re: Bachmann spectrum k4 shell removal

I just checked the locomotive itself. There's no screw in the stack. I think I'm gonna end up taking it to my local hobby shop. I also emailed bachmann directly. Thanks for the suggestion though I appreciate it a lot

I think it's the screw underneath the trailing wheels when looking from the bottom of the locomotive by looking at it in person. Any confirmation?

Serviced meaning lubricating the motor bearings, worm gear, valve gear, and looking for wear like bad brushes or anything that could cause the burning smell.

HO / Bachmann spectrum k4 shell removal
December 20, 2019, 11:02:32 PM
Hey guys I bought an older bachmann spectrum k4 and I want to completely service it because I don't know it's history or if it's ever been serviced. After running it for about 15 minutes I put my nose up to the loco and could slightly smell burning. I tried looking at the exploded diagram but I can't really make sense of it to see what I have to unscrew to take the shell off and expose the motor. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

HO / Re: Drawbar for spectrum k4

Update- I looked closer at the parts page and I saw that the drawbar comes with the k4 chassis that is still available for purchase, so I just ordered that. It cost me 3x more than the part I needed, but I figure I can borrow more off the new chassis if I need to in the future

My only concern is the shape of the drawbar. It's an x-shape with prongs on the tips of the arms of the x that fit into grooves on the locomotive and the tender. One of the arms that connects to the tender was broken off and nowhere to be found it the box. The remaining arm holds the two together seemingly well, but I haven't had a chance to run the locomotive yet to see how well it holds up.

That credit card trick sounds like a good idea!

HO / Drawbar for spectrum k4

Hey everyone! I just received an ho spectrum k4 from eBay that I knew needed some work, such as the headlight but what I didn't expect was the drawbar to be broken. It is part no. 8410X-00K01. I emailed bachmann and they said the part is no longer available. Does anyone know where I can find one or if I can modify another kind of drawbar? Thanks
