December 29, 2015, 12:34:15 PM
I wish I could find the photo; but I lost it.
Has anyone else seen a plow   under the pilot deck, but before the pilot wheels,
opperated buy an air pusher air cylinder on each side under the pilot deck too?
looks like it raises buy air and rides just above the rails,
It almost looks like a flanger.

Large / C class engines on the D&RGW
December 24, 2015, 12:26:44 AM
What is the difference between the  C-16 and a C-19.
Other than the tonnage ratings of 16,000 compared to 19,000 ???, and dates of manufacture?

Large / K-27's
December 21, 2014, 05:30:27 PM
My question to the Bachmann is,
Bachmann Industries has had a great success with the K-27's.
Are you ever thinking of reintroducing the K-27's and if yes , what about making them with the steam chest upper cylinder, be in, instead of out to resemble the rest of the remaining fleet ?
Also can anyone tell me why the D&RGW made the steam chest in two designs (ways). One facing in and then some facing out above the lower cylinder.
Thanks in advance.

Large / Numbers on tank cars and others
August 31, 2014, 07:32:04 AM
To the Backmann;
Just purchased 3 of your Spectrum "Gramps" tank cars and the detailing is supperb. I really like the spectrum line of cars.
The only draw back is the numbers as I see it , there are anly 2 numbers avalible.
Have you ever given any thought to adding a decal sheet so the serious D&RGW modeller can change numbers themselves, to make it so there are never two numbers the same in a string of tankers or any other of your cars you have.
Even a decal sheet for your spectrum like, for purchase would be great if it was possible.
Just a thought.

Large / Painting
July 09, 2014, 06:09:23 PM
I know many railroads, like the D&RGW had several tender designs, number and classification, colours.  First in block lettering, then the the toilet seat with block lettering and lastly the flying RIO GRANDE. Somewhere in white and some in silver. The tender and the engine where trimmed in silver /or white/ or sometimes neither.
I have a Backmann K-27 # 455 and want to change the number and herald to the flying RIO GRANDE and if I can find a rear tender light, I will add it too. It currently has the toilet seat herald with DENVER AND RIO GRANDE WESTERN in silver.
I know how to remove the Bachmann painted fonts and have the herald sets in dry transfer and decal too, depending which one I like best.
Depending on the locomotive, if the top of the steam chest was in or out, at the top, also made a big difference too which engine had what.
I would like to do a engine with the white flying RIO GRANDE, Any help on which engine to renumber it in or where I can find paint schemes would be a big help..
It would be so much easier if I could just find and purchase a new tender shell the way I want it, like the 463. Unforchantly Bachmann only has the 455 , which I already own. The engine also has to have the green painted boiler.
Any help on this would really be helpful.
Thanks in advance for all help

Large / Tank Cars
February 20, 2014, 07:42:27 PM
I my reading of tank cars pulled by the D&RGW, they where leasted, unframed UTLX cars with many having the Gramps name in big, bold, white letters on the sides. This was done for Lafayette Hughes grand children who call him (Gramps).
But my question to anyone who knows, did the oil producer ever use frames tank car, like the LGB tank cars and the Bachmann regular sized ones paint up like the unframed ones. Not the spectrum ones.
If yes, where can I see a picture of these tanker cars.
I haven't see any pictures of framed one, but that doesn't mean they didn't have or use them.
Anyone have the answer for me and thanks in advance.

Large / Blind drivers on C-19
November 03, 2013, 11:02:53 PM
Why did the D&RGW C-19's  and smaller engines have blind drivers. The total driver centre to centre distance looks smaller to me than on the K-27's,28's 36's and/or 37's.
The only thought that comes to mind is spure lines must have been much tighter, making it necessary for blind drivers to negotiate track curves and switches ?
Weight wouldn't have been a factor, I don't think.
Bachmann made the Spectrum Series Correct. And a fine job they did of it too.

Large / Scales
September 29, 2013, 10:56:01 AM
OK now,
I have heard so many scales of model railroading.
I myself am using G Scale engines and rolling stock in 1/29 for standard gauge and engines, equipment in Narrow Gauge 1.20.3 (Fn3).
In one of my searches on the internet today , someone has come up with Gn3,??????
Is this the beginning of another scale.
Sometimes I think people just make up scales to suit themselves because they mix and match there rolling stock and don't know the difference in scales or care too.
Scales I know in G scale are , 1:24 , 1:29 , both in standard and narrow gauge and 1:32 standard gauge.
Then Fn3 1:20.3. in narrow gauge.
I have no idea what scale LGB is, somewhere around 1:26 or there abouts I am guessing.
Anyone else care to comment on this Gn3 scale. Also feel free to add other G scale gauges I didn't mention.

Large / Dog Houses on the D&RGW ?
June 24, 2013, 11:16:32 PM
Does anyone know why, #453, K-27 was the only engine, in this class to have a Dog House on its tender. I have not found any photos to prove otherwise.
I believe you got it right Backmann, on your engines. You must have done the research on this.
Can you shed any light on this ?

Is there a chance that Bachmann Industries will produce a Spectrum 4 wheel caboose in the 0570 numbers or 400 number series ?
Your long caboose  is fantastic, so I ask, is it in the future.
Hope so.
To everyone else,
Why did the D&RG paint a 4 wheel green caboose with the toilet seat logo ?
Was it for the Royal Gorge tourist line caboose ? and information on # 0579 would be appreciated too.
This inquisitive mind needs to know.

Large / D&RGW .......real track sizes.
June 03, 2013, 05:49:22 PM
Does any one have any idea what the real track turning radius on the D&RGW or D&RGS would have been to accommodate the K-27's,28's,36's and 37's.???????
I know some engines had center drivers with no flanges or so called blind drivers, to help on sharp curves and switches like the C-19's
Also the size of smallest to largest switches too ??????? and what where the maximum grades they encountered???????
I have heard so may different answers, I thought it would be interesting to here and confirm what I have heard to be the truth.
Thanks in advance for all replies and I will reply latter with what I think are the correct answers.

Large / Kit bashing San Jaun cars
May 23, 2013, 08:06:31 PM
My previous question about the D&RGW's San Jaun passengers cars was a bust.
I am now asking another question, because no one knows where to purchase 1:20.3 passenger coaches,......... does any one know where to purchase parts to make such a coach, web site would be very helpful.
Mr Bachmann or the Yard Master, is there any hope of Bachmann Industries ever be making a San Jaun set in 1;20.3 ? . I know you asked about if anyone was interested and what readers thought of pricing. What did you make of that blog and thanks in advance.

Large / San Jaun Coaches
May 14, 2013, 09:29:54 PM
On the hunt;
I have been collecting my Johnson & Sharp coaches for my San Jaun express, over the last year or so.
The only coach I need is and does anyone know where I can purchase it is, the ( AL84-202 ) D&RGW San Jaun passenger coach. It was made by Accucraft. In green preferred, but will paint and letter it if needed.
It is much needed to match my parlor-buffet car ( Chama ) made by Accucraft. It would have to have the closed in platforms with the accordion style diaphrams.
I would by one from Bachmann, if they only made it.
It would be great if some out there can direct me to a purchase of one.
Don't know where else to turn to but to you narrow gauge railroaders of Bachmann web page.
To the Bach-man and Yardmaster, I am hoping you will get your company making these coaches in 1:20 .3 soon, because I for one need more and if your coaches would be any thing like you K-27's and caboose detailing, they will be out of this world .
Price, $225.00 to $300.00 would be great in my books.
Thanks in advance to all;

May 01, 2013, 07:08:49 PM

What does the large scale sencise of the older sound systems.
I allready know the Phoinex sound, because I use them in my Engines now.

Large / Railway Shows
January 27, 2013, 06:50:46 AM
My question is for the Bachmann.
Will you ever consider doing a railway show, here in southern Ontario, Canada.
It would be great to meet you and the Yard Master, I know others would too. It would give us a face to face relationship with Bachmann, rather than just an internet one !
Please think about it. It would give a real lift to your Canadian market.
Just talking out loud

Large / Smoke
November 11, 2012, 10:24:07 PM
I would like to add smoke units to my K-27's. I run on battery power and will run the smoke unit on battery as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions on which smoke units to use and where to purchase them and cost ?
Has any one done this yet, and with any success with smoke looking realistic.
I have seen smoke on some steam engines in smaller gauges, but not in G or F scales and not very convincing.
Thanks in advance for all replies to fallow.

Large / Part information ?
October 24, 2012, 10:36:37 PM
To the Bachman ;
I was wondering why for example, K-27 pilots are not on you page for replacement parts ? The dog house is an other example, and what else do you have, not on these pages ?
I had to go to E-bay and found out, you make replacement pilots, and purchased one because I couldn't get through on the telephone last time to your parts deptment to find out if a replacement was readially avaliable for purchase..
A replacement was needed, because a detail parl was broken opon deleivery of my 2nd K-27 and being a rivet counter. I had to fix it before it would drive me crazy.
Just asking ?
Thanks in advance to all at Backmann.
