Large / altering c-19 with short tender
June 15, 2013, 07:19:28 PM
In hopes of modernizing the C-19 with short tender (because i wanted the reverse light) i purchased a dome (large C-19) model 831x-OBEO7.  After looking at the parts diagrams i realize why it does not fit where hoped.  Is there hope that the other dome parts as well as those for the front dome will be available separately....or will we have to purchase the entire boiler to end up with a more modern appearance.   Thanks for your thoughts.

Large / a new garden railway book
April 21, 2013, 08:51:10 PM
i hope it is ok to give a heads up like this.....i have been reading Kevin Strong's GARDEN RAILWAY BASICS:  FROM CONCEPT TO CONSTRUCTION TO UPKEEP.  Nicely done:  easy to read, nice pictures, and touches much of the hobby.  i model in my basement, but this book still has many chapters that give good insight.  Check it out.  Exclusively large scale

Large / EBT ore cars
February 03, 2013, 04:36:04 PM
Would ore cars similar to 98514 ever be fitted with air brakes so that they might be included in a freight train?

If cylinders etc. were not installed, might a line passing the air pressure through the undercarriage so that it could be passed to car further on in the train.

Large / C-19 parts request
February 03, 2013, 01:18:40 PM
Hoping that Bachmann with make the assorted domes for the C-19 available as separate parts.  Because i wanted the short undecorated tender, i had to get the 83198 with the fluted domes.  I would like to get the domes of the 83199 to replace the fluted ones.  Thanks.

Large / C-19 Cab
January 10, 2013, 01:17:54 PM
i would like to add a crew to the C-19.  i have looked at the Cab assembly picture, but i cannot tell if removing the roof will allow window sub-assemblies to fall out of place.  Does anyone know?  Hate to take the roof off and not be able to get all those little things back in place.  Any suggestions for the crew?   i understand that space is limited and yet i would like to stick to scale....and not downsize the people.
  Thanks!!
    Thanks.

Large / c-19 sound install
October 26, 2012, 02:34:17 PM
Some step by step help with Phoenix sound installation in the C-19 please.
First of all....which unit would you purchase?
Once received....in a step by step; wire by wire, pin by pin, setting by setting, how do you install the unit.
From what i gather by looking at the instructions, it should be a matter of hooking up a couple of wires to the correct areas of the board...but even there i have trouble.
My results with the 2-6-6-2 were not pretty (my installer messed that one up.)  Other engines needed diode circuits, etc  installed, etc.
Is this engine as simple as it should be....and if so....what specifically will go from what to what??
Thanks for you help.  It is really appreciated.  i so want to do this myself...not sending it out.

Large / spectrum 4-4-0
September 06, 2012, 05:18:04 PM
i have the spectrum 2-6-0 which for the most part is a fine running engine.   But since i use LGB's 8 foot diameter track, the center driver wheel can sometimes drop below the railhead....especially at the switches.  is there a similar problem with the 4-4-0 using this diameter track?   Thanks.

   Thanks.

Large / when??
July 11, 2012, 01:21:38 PM
Does anyone have any idea of if,and/or when we might expect a "new" not a reissue engine in large scale?  What most likely be the prototype?   Thanks for any educated guess....

Can some one tell me the number of electrial pickup points for this loco?  Are both the engine and the tender involved?     Thanks.

Large / Narrow gauge 2-8-2
January 14, 2012, 05:57:47 PM
Bachmann's K's are a very nice engines.  i own two.  The realities of the economy should stop me from asking for this info....but i am a dreamer.

i would like to see another 2-8-2 released...inside frame, with a less distinctive Denver & Rio character.  Looked at pics of EBT (No. 12) and Uintah's (No. 40) inside frame engines.  Are those engines larger than the Denver Mikado.  Unfortunately i have a basement railroad with LGB curves 16000 and 18000.  Thus the engine would have to be comparable in size to the present Mikado.
i do marvel at the way Bachmann has designed the Mikado to fit into the curves  If they were not designed as they are, i could not have purchased them....i do feel sorry for them as they snake through my curves.  But they do it without complaining.  Thank goodness the curves are almost hidden by scenery.

Sooooo....back to my question...are the Uintah's (40) and EBT (12) larger or smaller than the present Mikado?  And did any other narrow gauge run 2-8-2's.  Of course i would be happy with a 2-6-2 (EBT) as well!
  Thanks for the help.

Large / 2-4-2 piping
August 09, 2011, 03:37:11 PM
i did try this in another thread, but there has been no reply....so i thought i would attempt a thread of its own.   When attempting to put a crew in the new 2-4-2, it was easy to remove the screws as shown in the diagrams that come with the engine, so that i could remove the cab.... but i could not remove the piping to completely remove the cab and install the crew.  Can someone give a suggestion or two.
  Thank you.

Large / Size?
July 01, 2011, 10:43:26 AM
If Bachmann were to manufacture the  EBT 2-6-2 #11, how would its size compare to that of the Connie?  It would be a nice engine to see in the round house.

Large / sound in a 2-6-6-2
March 21, 2011, 04:18:21 PM
Help please,
i am thinking of putting a Dallee sound unit into a Bachmann 2-6-6-2.   Any advice would be appreciated.  Loooooooong ago i  put a Sierra unit into a 4-6-0 successfully...but that did not have all the electronic "stuff" to confuse me.   i have looked over Dallee diagrams and almost seem to understand them...but relating them to the Bachmann board in the engine is another thing.  i'd like to install batteries to help keep the sound running when the voltage drops since i use track power.  i did contact Dallee and was told to use Steam Sound w/Auto Whistle...but i hope for a bit more detailed info.
  Thanks for your time!!!

Large / up dating the 2-6-0 and 4-4-0
January 17, 2011, 06:42:36 PM
Many of us have requested up-dated versions of the Mogel and American Spectrum engines.  The more modern Connie "seems" have sold successfully.  Other than the plastic gear on the drive axle, the engines seem to be reliable.  If Bachmann looked into the gearing issue and up-dated cab, domes, stack, lamp, etc.....to me (yeah i know...) it seems that they would have successful selling engines, without the MAJOR investment of a brand new engine.
Obviously i am naive with my knowledge of business ventures. Seriously.... why would the company NOT look into the idea of up dating these model.??
   Thanks for the insights.

Large / service time?
February 10, 2009, 01:04:10 PM
i am sure this has been covered MANY times before...but one more time wouldn't hurt i guess.

i sent my 2-6-6-0 mallet to Bachmann service 1/5/09.
Of course i would have like to have had it back the day before i sent it out...but that is not the way of the world.  But i did call today, to get an idea of how much longer it would take, and was told that it will still be "quite a while." Since it was not logged in yet, it was still in the receiving room.  Just wondering if anyone might have experience "quite a while" and give me an idea of how long it might be.

Thanks for the help.

Large / amp and voltmeter and tinny connectors
January 20, 2009, 05:02:45 PM
Hi,
  (1) i have a voltmeter (20 volts) and ammeter (5 amps) permanantly wired into the layout.  They are many years old and from a company called NJ International...or something like that.  i tried to look the company up online and found them.  It seems, however, they no longer make the meters.  i would like to get something like them.  Does anyone have an idea of where something like them could be obtained.

(2)  My 0-4-0 has a bit of trouble traveling thru LGB's plastic frogs and so i have made a trailing "pick-up" car to help it receive current when the engine crosses the frog.   i would like to be able to disconnect the trailing car at times, can someone suggest a source of very small male/female connector kind of thing that i might use.  i have looked this up on Radioshack's cite and did was not successful and identifing anything i could use.

Thanks for the help.
