44860 and 44862 are the same, but 44862 has a remote control. 44864 is a #4 switch. It has a sharper curve than the other two....Mike

Yes it's possible, although it's not one that I have done. There may be somebody here  ( Tony ) that has done one, but you might also want to ask over at trainboard.com . You may get a few more experts over there.....Mike

With the atlas caboose just get the atlas replacement trucks with the microtrains style coupler Chuck . They may fit the MRC one also, but I don't really know.

There is a tutorial out there somewhere. I found it last summer. Somewhere. You will have to totally dissassemble the loco , take out the motor, cut the contacts on the motor so they don't contact the frame , wire it back up and re assemble. Its really not too hard, sounds worse than it is. Found it http://www.nscale.net/forums/showthread.php?20301-Bachmann-0-6-0-Switcher-DCC-conversion-A-complete-how-too-(pic-heavy)  I didn't exactly foll all of this the way he did it, I took a few shortcuts with the way the wires run. His method is over complicated I think.....Mike

It will run fine on you're DC system. It has a dual mode decoder in the tender that will automaticaly switch between DC or DCC.....Mike

N / Re: TENDER TRUCK(4-6-0) (N Scale) part needed
January 05, 2014, 04:30:20 PM
I think any of the USRA  wheel trucks will work. You might have to change both of them though if Bachmann doesn't have one to match the 4-6-0.

I see they have them for the 2-8-0, those should work.....Mike

N / Re: Does my new engine have a problem?
January 03, 2014, 10:17:19 AM
I think you may be able to adjust the start voltage so that it will start moving sooner. I think that the start voltage is usually set too high from the factory. Not sure if the bachmann controler will let you adjust any CV's though, I own a different system. Mine also runs slowly at top speed, it's just the way its geared. It should have enough oil from the factory, but if you turn it over you could add a tiny drop or 2 to the gear that is there. That way you wouldn't have to disassemble the loco. Unless you're getting a high pitched squealing noise, I would not put any oil on the motor bearings. Too much there could cause other problems. .....Mike

"Usually" mixing brands doesn't work well. They probably have different gearing. You could look at spookshow.net in his loco handbook to find out more about both brands. But that probably still won't help with you're original question.   If you do get one and the speeds are at least kind of close they should work OK together....Mike

N / Re: Trouble with power to EZ track
December 27, 2013, 11:03:50 AM
You're rail joiners are loose and not conducting power . They are the little metal things on the ends of the track pieces. You should probably go to you're hobby shop and get some new ones. Better yet ask about Kato Unitrack, its the best for a starter set and will always work.....Mike

They still make the Northerns and 0-6-0. I think if you talk to Laura ? in service you can make some kind of arrangment to be able to keep your custom shells. The new mechs are much better and have better gears.....Mike

N / Re: Adding Lights to a N scale locomtive?
December 13, 2013, 10:37:59 AM
Those locos aren't set up for lighting. I think it could be done but it would be difficult. I havn't seen anyone add lighting to one of these yet so you would be the Guinea pig on this one  ;D ....Mike
