You took the words rightout of my mouth.  ;) Thank you, Kevin. I'm looking forward to the photos.

I have already ordered decals through eBay, but I haven't touched the tender yet. I wanted to make sure I had the decals in hand before making the attempt. Please keep us posted concerning your success, or lack thereof, dare I say, Kevin. As always, thanks to everyone.

Sorry for not responding sooner. Thank you to everyone for your great responses. Yes, I do have a green-boilered K-27. Love it. I have Ferrell's book, Silver San Juan, The Rio Grande Southern, and while the loco may not have retained its green boiler jacket by the time it made it to the RGS from the D&RGW, who can tell?

I love this hobby and appreciate everyone's willingness to help. Happy railroading to all!

Large / K-27 removal of tender lettering

Not my best shot at creating a subject title, but it suffices. I have the 455 D&RGW version of the K-27 and would like to replace the lettering on the tender to Rio Grande Southern the way it looked before the accident and replacement of the cab. Does anyone know the best way to remove the lettering without damaging the black paint?

Thank you.

I was able to reach Customer Support. Irvin was great and gave me some good pointers. He'll also send me the replacements. Thank you. ;D

Thank you. I'll try again Monday morning. Support has been good to me in the past; I was just surprised to get a busy signal when I called yesterday in the afternoon.

Charrrrge!

Large / K-27 Old Question - Counterweights (Again?)
January 16, 2009, 04:19:17 PM
Your indulgence, please. I was finally able to get my K-27 out of the box. (It's been over a year since I made the purchase - what patience!) I've lubed it in anticipation of testing the DCC install with sound I just completed. Then (shudder) I remembered to check the counterweights.

All axles, except the third one, seem to have considerable play in the counterweights. Yikes! I probably need replacements. However, I forgot what the policy is to get the replacements. I tried to call support, but the line was busy. (Voice mail, anyone?)

What do I need to send to Bachmann to get the new counterweights? Also, I downloaded the replacement instructions from the Gallery several months ago, so I should be good to go there. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you.

I bought the side tank Porter from them when they first came out and was pleased with their responsiveness and pricing. Good luck! :)

I will certainly conduct the test before requesting the counterweights. Thank you for the timely tip. It's been interesting(?) reading the sometimes heated debate about this. I'm just glad I have mine and look forward to running it...as soon as we move. Sigh.

Thank you for the information. Still waiting on my 455, but will be patient. It certainly seems to be worth waiting for.

The pictures of the K's are wonderful on the Gallery.

Again, STRONGLY believing that there is no such thing as a stupid question, will all versions come with the snow plow?

I have ordered the green #455 and would love to have the flexibility of installing it. If it does not come with the engine, will we be able to order it separately?

Thank you again. This is a WONDERFUL hobby!

Thank you all for your response. I feared that my latest question would go unanswered. Ah...the plight of the faint-hearted. Your responses are most informative and helpful!

What a wonderful hobby we're in! I look forward to getting my K when it arrives!

Ahh, but with what lettering (Flying herald or its predecessor) and will it come with the snowplow?

Thank you all for your feedback. It's fun.

Thank you for you reply.

On the Caboose Hobbies site, it reads, "K-27 2-8-2 BlkGrnBoiler 455 1:20 , PTD" right below the listing of the "K-27 2-8-2 Blk Grn Boiler 1:20, Unlettered." The folks at Caboose Hobbies didn't know for sure.

Ah, sweet mysteries of life. I eagerly await Mr. Bach-man's reply.
