I just striped seven engines. four are ER Models and the other three Concor. The Bachmann / ER Models paint came off in a mater of minutes soaking in 91% alco.  The Concor took a few days to soak and keep working the paint with a tooth brush.    All bodies are clean and look like new ready for paint,

I'd be in for that. Putting a small logging village on a mountain top so that would be perfect.

I been on the trail for a good Y6B myself too. Three Rivs had had better days and if Bachmann made them as good as their EM-1s they would be awesome. Have all four road numbers and triple head sometimes.  It's a sight to behold.

Get adventurist and go Pennsy T1 or J1,

Has to be something wrong with your's. I have all four road numbers they made and each one pulls great. I double head them and yank 60 cars no problem.  A little much for my 13' X 11' but still looks impressive.   I've already triplehead as in a photo found in the book "portrait of the rails".  That was a train !

But yes I would say it's the engine you have.   They work great with soundtraxx decoders too ;)

I put a Soundtraxx ECO-100 in mine.  Works well but I'm trying to come up with a better speaker. Blew out the first one.

As a machinist I know tooling is very expensive and takes time. corrections is what kills it.

especially after i now have two BLI 4-8-2 Pennsy M1a & B.  Awesome engines. Come on Bachmann. give something as good as your EM-1 is. I have all four road numbers of them, they are awesome.  I put soundtraxx in the all, full decoders.  Excellent pulling engines. 70 cars easy doubleheading.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend and call the decoder "cheap".  I just meant it is less expensive and less functional then the TSU-750 or ECO-100 by soundtraxx.

How about a Pennsy T1 in the future please,

Same goes for me too.  I have 3 NKP Berks and 2 K4's sitting here and it gets pretty loud after awhile. Then with three trains running with doubleheaders that makes 11 engines making noise.

I know soundtraxx CV 113 puts them to sleep but i don't think the cheap factory installed soundtraxx decoders have that option in Bachmann engines.

Any takers on this one ?

I put the soundtraxx econo ECO-100 steam decoder in. It was rather easy to do.  I used a soundtraxx boxed oval speaker but i may still change that to a round one and see if the sound clears up a tad.  They have a correct whistle in it's file.  My favorite sound in there besides the whistle is the cylinder cocks. They really come off as a spot on match when she first gets underway.

I'm gonna give it a try as soon as I pick up one of the newer version of this engine.  Thanks for the replies,

N / Bachmann SF 4-8-4, last release version, DCC ?

Has anyone put a decoder in one of the latest released engine on this class and if so was it difficult to do ?    I put decoders in engines that were designed to receive them but never one that hasn't been made to receive one.

I know about isolating the motor etc but is it pretty much decoder friendly for the start ?

Thank you,

I had the same problem with the NKP-765.  Tried everything but I had to send it back and if you do want the same exact engine cab number be sure to tell them that. They sent me  NKP 759 and I already had one. I have three so I just renumbered one to 757 like the one at Strasberg, PA.
Nothing like a doubleheader steam.
