I figured it out.  The six screws under the cab hold the whole boiler/cab assembly on.  I was looking for screws under the boiler itself.

I was able to change the orange LED in the headlight housing by bending the leads straight and pushing the lens out by holding the LED leads with pliers close to the back of the headlight.  It looks like there is a little bit of glue on the lens, but a little force and the LED pushed the lens out the front.

On30 / 2-6-6-2 Headlight

I wanted to swap the headlight on my 2-6-6-2.  I pulled the existing headlight out and put the LED leads through the two holes in the top of the boiler, but it doesn't work.  I suspect the connector (like in the tender) is loose.  The smokebox cover seems to be glued on, so I can't get to it that way.  Any suggestions on how to get inside the boiler to reattach the wires?

Thanks

If it is only one car, I would guess that one of the wires has broken where it connects to the truck.  There is one wire to each truck (opposite sides) held on by a small brass loop.  Sometimes the flexing of the wire as the train goes around curves will cause the wire to break right where it attaches to the brass loop.

What is it about the 4-4-0 that you don't like?  Is it the inside frame or outside frame?  I don't have one, but was thinking about getting one....
