General Discussion / Re: maintaining my trains
May 23, 2010, 03:38:17 AM
greetings sir Doneldon,

thank you again for the tips, the pencil eraser, lighter fluid, alcohol are within my reach, but for the lubes i'll just give it a try. i'm also a plastic modeller maybe the guys on the other side might have a suggestion on lubes for plastics.

as for the electric motor sir, what can you suggest? is the electric motor cleaner too strong? i will attempt to repair the electric motor that was submerged in flood. will there still be hope for this?

thankyou

greetings sir,

thankyou sir Doneldon, we don't have bachmann or train stores here in the philippines. i can only buy lubes available in the local market. for example sir, can i clean the electric motor with the CYCLO ELECTRIC MOTOR CLEANER and lubricate the gears with WD 40?

the most i can keep them when i used the word for a while will be a year. i can clean them once or twice a year and run them after each servicing, will that do? for the tracks sir, what alternative method can i use? when keeping the locos and rolling stocks with metal components, i'm planning to wipe them with WD 40 (wheels, gears etc), spray the electric motor with the cyclo electric motor cleaner and wrap them with bubble wrap which can be bought here in our local book stores. for the tracks a little spray of WD 40, a clean wipe and wrap them with bubble wrap and place them in a box. can i include a silicon gel with them in the box to prevent moisture?

thankyou

sir how do you keep your trains? if example you want to keep them for some time due to a busy schedule and would not attend to them for a long time. where do you put your trains specially the sensitive locos and controls? do you put them on boxes and is there a specific room temperature? will in boxes and inside closets be ok? what do you put on them inorder they would run again if you decide to play with them.

thankyou

greetings,

thanks guys for your concern. i'm not that hopeless to buy this loco that doesn't work. i'll just get back to this seller and tell him to revise his intro to the item he is selling because he mentioned "ready to run".

greetings,

i'm new to this hobby and it seems i'll be dealing with maintaining my trains. can anyone provide me with basic maintainance tips like basic tools and knowhow if i'll take them apart. the bachmann train that i have which was submerged in flood waters will be my first challenge if i want to fix it.

the train ho superchief that i'm planning to buy thru ebay was shelved by the seller for 2 years and when he tested it, the wheels wont turn and run but he can hear the engines. what can be done? should i push thru with the purchase? is it normal if ever for the gears to stuckup if not used for 2 years?

thankyou

May 16, 2010, 05:35:59 AM
greetings bachmann :),

i'm steve from the philippines. i have a bachmann superchief ho scale but unfortunately it was submerged in flood waters when manila was hit by a typhoon last year :'(. the diesel engine, controls and power supply were not lucky :'(. can it be repaired or do i have to buy a new one? a local seller here in ebay is selling his same ho bachmann superchief for 4,000 pp or $87.00 is the price ok for a used kit :-\?

we will visit hong kong maybe this coming december. is there a store in hong kong where i can buy spare parts for my train set?

thankyou
steve
