newyorkcentralfan and others,

MR using On2½ and not On30 followed the name of scale paradigm for the NMRA Standards.

BUT in July 2004, the NMRA Standards were changed. The replacement of On2½ with On30 was one item of the changes.

I like my AirWire, but the motor management at low speed (No back EMF!) is miserable compared to the Digitrax  DG 583 I've been using before.
Wolfgang,
Advise CVP about your experience with the low speed motor management and your version of AirWire900.

FYI Item No. 92424, 4 per pack, are the rollers without ball-bearing.
There are pictures of Items 92424 and 92423 on page 144 of the 2007 print catalog.

http://www.mylargescale.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=45079 Thread has a picture of the test/display roller set sold by Aristo Craft. Bachmann's set appears to be similar.

Check the box for another set of red power wires without the E-Z Track connector. If you don’t have it, just cut the track connector off.

Here is one way http://home.neo.rr.com/mrwithdcc/f7app.html
check Digitrax website for current version decoder.

Bachmann does produce inexpensive decoder equipped HO FT-A & FT-B locomotives.

Lights in cars should be 14V  but get them as far away from shell as you can or just remove the lightbulb.

Quotecan you re-program the address CV so as to change the loco's number
Yes, but address limited to 1 - 9. E-Z Command Control Center is designed to program address on the main. There are instructions on how to use a programming track.

QuoteMy son-in-law thinks he can take this Command set and control a 8 or 10 sound equipped train layout. I think he is expecting too much out of the Command set. He will at least have to have a booster, right?
RIGHT!

Jim Banner provided the information to answer these two questions in his reply.

You and your son-in-law read together ALL the information in the E-Z Command link above.

Quoteassuming the EZ Command sets come with a No sound decoder in the engine
correct â€" locomotives do not have sound decoder.

QuoteDoes that mean it will operate a unit with a sound chip in it? If so, probably only the bell and whistle, right?
The E-Z Command Control Center unit will turn on/off a decoder sound assigned to Function F1 - F8. However, it can not program the CVs which control the sounds.

QuoteI might add most of the negative commentators have never tried it outside, so how do they know?  They are making assumptions based upon a logical application of some things that they know.
Don Malm
Don, I have tested several brands and gauges of track outside (not covered) including N.

Don, beans6645 will only experience similar results to yours if he creates the same environment. For starters, beans6645 tell Don what you mean by hot summer in Australia. Also Don note what beans6645 wrote,
Quote… building in the great out doors.
I have a good size outside area that I wish to develop as a garden with a model railway.

Garden with model railway does not bring covered patio to my mind.  ;)

It is nice to see you enjoying the different facets of train modeling.

Sid,
Welcome to the forum.

There are only a few Forum Trolls here; since you have been reading for awhile, you likely already recognize who to ignore.

N scale outside – forget it… Track and equipment will not last. Even with the entire layout overhead covered (track and equipment must be shaded from all sun), you will be spending most of your time track cleaning and equipment maintenance. Try it, it takes very little wind to derail N-scale stuff.

Start thinking O scale or larger. If you have the space focus on large-scale that is made for outside use.

Sheldon,
Without getting into the various ways to wire for DCC, this PDF link http://www.tonystrains.com/download/MRR-PowerDist.pdf should help as it shows a technique of wiring that makes use of power districts.  This is not the only way to make use of power districts when wiring for DCC.
