Large / more brake "stuff"
March 28, 2008, 11:41:14 AM
Could a car or two without air brake gear be included in a consist of those with rigging?...perhaps at the end of the train? ....or would this defeat the safety devices?
  Thanks again.

Large / log car
March 26, 2008, 02:26:36 PM
Bachmann's Large Scale log cars do not come with air-brake cylinders-rigging etc. since most prototypically the would not have had them...i think.  i was wondering if protypes log car might have had air brake rigging in some cases?

Thank for your help.

Thanks for the + comments jimtyp.  There is nothing special there.  The pics were taken with a Kodak EasyShare cx6330 that i really don't know how to work except that the flash was shut off and the over head floursecent lights were on.  The first two were taken at the "close-up" setting.  The layout is in the basement so i can get at it all year long.
Again, Thanks.

Hello again...and thanks for replying!! But still weighing my own thoughts.   Obviously i have too much time on my hands....here a bit more to look at.

The Convertible is again 1:18, the railcar is Bachmann's 1:20.3, and the truck is 1:24.

The people on the left are 1:20.3, while those on the right are 1:22.5....at least that is what the advertisments for each say.

To me the 1/24 seems a bit small....especially when the scale people are added.  But then of course....there is the problem of the structures...but they don't seem to bother me as much.
   Thanks for the input.

Large / scale help
March 04, 2008, 07:44:53 PM
hummmm...hope this works.

i have been running Annie and Connie; and have just purchased a K.  i have been using 1/24 scale automobiles with the first two engines.
While the 1/18 scale, my wife feels are much to big

Neither of us have seen narrow gauge in action and are not really able to make a valid comparison.  The green sedan is 1/24 scale and the convertible is 1/18.
Any feeling on the matter that might help me make a decison as to which autos to use.   Thanks.

Large / A new book on the East iBroad Top
February 21, 2008, 04:21:38 PM
i am placing this message in the Large Scale section of Bachmann's Board since most of Bachmann's Large Scale product is based on narrow gauge prototype.

i just receive  IMAGES OF RAIL EAST BROAD TOP RAILROAD, by Kenneth C. Springirth.  (Copyright 2008) Lots of nice pictures and some reading as well.  i am not sure how much will be "new" if you are really familiar with the railroad, but from first appearances, it seems to be informative for those who have an interest in the Broad Top...good pictures for those that like to look at narrow gauge prototypes.  ( i am not associated with the author or publisher!!)  Just appears to be some nice "stuff" here.  i think others might enjoy as well.  It is very similiar to IMAGES OF RAIL MAINE NARROW GAUGE RAILROADS.

Large / narrow gauge transportation of perishables?
February 18, 2008, 02:29:03 PM
Would someone tell me how an North Eastern U.S. narrow gauge line might have transported commodites such as milk, cheese, and uncooked meats? The time period could be anytime from the 1920 to the 1950 (if the line had lasted that long!!) From what i have read, even the EBT did not have reefers.  Perhaps it was the short distances involved and they were not necessary.
  Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks all....certainly make sense there...At least the "blind" drivers should give it a fighting chase of running on 4' radii.  i do think i read somewhere that Yoder's mike requires an 8 foot radius...but i guess i really couldn't afford it....even if it did run on 4'.  It does look quite the beautiful engine.
   Again...thanks.
