Thank you for the very informative information.  The one thing I want a system to do from time to time (when maybe company is over) is to be able to have the train run completely on its own including stopping at stations and having different routes in a sort program mode.  Now that's probably at least a year away before I need to upgrade.

Some people feel its a waste of money upgrading from system to system which in many cases true.  But I have had great like selling my used stuff on eBay or even trading it.

Thanks a lot.  I have been on vacation and have not checked the message boards for a few days.  Lots of great stuff!

I have the Bachmann EZ command and love it. However,  I think I am ready to move on from it.  I am not sure I will go to the dark side and go CV crazy ( I admit it though, I do want to go to the dark side start learning about those CV's it looks and sounds right up my ally)

The BACHMANN EZ COMMAND DYNAMIS WIRELESS CONTROLLER 36505  is what I am looking at now and have been watching them  on eBay go for around $100.  But I have taken a liking to the Super Empire Builder Advanced Set or theSuper Chief Super LocoNet Sets

Yampa Bob- You use 3 EZ commands or did I read that wrong.

The layout is awesome!  Great work.  As for me I like the larger picture files. Even if I still had Dial up it is worth the wait.  You can see the detail in the larger files.  Anyway glad to see the progress on the numbers.

Did you do it yet?  Would love to see pictures.  I have the bushman Spectrum Heavyweight passenger cars and I have two of the 810.  I want to change one of them.  Though I do not think the HO passengers will car that much!

Looks great.  What company made the Michael Farm?  Is that a "wood kit?
The coal station is col too.  Scratch built?
I like the bear. looks like he is waiting for the next train.
What a huge layout.
It gave me some ideas.

Cool thanks

I love the K4.  But I am having a hard time with Tsunami DCC sound decoder and speaker to fit.  So I am retro fitting the inside to make it all fit.  Worth the work though!

My son would love that!

Hi

I think I know this may be but I figure  I would ask anyway.  A few months ago I bought a Spectrum HO 4-8-4 Class J passenger loco and then three ago I bought a Spectrum K4 4-6-2 steam engine and they both have this small black bag of coal like stuff?  What is it used for?

So what is it?

General Discussion / Re: DC to DCC Conversion
May 29, 2009, 03:00:06 AM
This was great thread to read.

I decided that if I have an emotional attachment to an engine.  This would be one that I had when I was a kid. That's about 30 years ago.  I would convert it to DCC.  I did it for several reasons.  However it was mainly because I could run more than one at a time and secondly I would not hear that sound I heard when i would run a DC engine on a DCC system.

Also I like taking on the challenge as well. As for my newer stock they are all DCC.  And until recently I was adding sound.  Now I think I just want to buy the engine with sound and DCC or DCC ready.

Lastly I would love a board that would just cover DCC questions.

Again a great Thread!

I just bought the same engine 2 wks ago. I am having a bear of a time with how little the space is in the tender.  I just put in a Tsunami TSU1000 sounder decoder. It sounds great. I am making modifications to the inside to fit it all. I could of used a smaller speaker but I like the sound I got from the one I picked out.  Unfortunately A few of the wires connected to the PC board just came off.  Now I have to figure out where they broke of from. Bachmann has a decoder for about $20 that should work.

Final Update
I went back to the hobby shop today and we exchanged the MRC for a Tsunami TSU-1000 Digital Sound Decoder for medium steam.

Wow what a difference.  The MRC was nice but the Tsunami is awesome!

Thanks for everyones help!

Another Update
I put in the MRC 1639 DCC Sound decoder it worked 2 days and it went bad today.  I am installed it on a Bachmann's SPECTRUM 84013 K4 4-6-2 Pacific. We just bought the engine just 2 weeks ago.  Could it be the engine?  The engine when I first bought it ran fine under normal DC operation.
