On30 / 2-6-6-2 Cab Roof
April 27, 2013, 05:57:13 AM
I plan to enlarge the cab of my expected On30 2-6-6-2 by lifting the cab roof. My question: Is the roof glued to the cab or (what I would definitely prefer) simply clipped in (if so where to press/pull to get it off?) ?

The spark arrestors that came/come with the Bachmann On30 models (Forney as well as Shay/Climax are not really visually appealing (at least my opinion). You might better try to get one of those brass parts (formally sold as On3) offered by Precision Scale Company and available from some online-dealers. They look much better, have different shapes but you will have to paint them. Regards. Peter

On30 / On30 gear issues
April 25, 2013, 05:29:11 AM
Hi Bach-man, your post regarding this long-lasting problem was really good news and I will gladly use the solution offered for my Rail-Truck. But there remains one question: What about those of us who were desperate enough to buy replacement gears for the problematic locos from you  when they were not available for free? In my case I bought replacement gears for 2 Shays and 1 Climax from your Service department that were quite expensive because of the high postage to Germany... Best Regards. Peter

On30 / Re: Consolidation question
April 16, 2013, 04:45:31 PM
I have fixed this part to my Consolidation and there should be a fitting hole in the tapered stack. If there is none you should try to get a replacement part or drill it yourself (as ist is plastic a sharp pointed knife blade will do). On the other end this part goes into the lower left cab front. There is a hole drilled for it but it is a bit tricky to reach so you will have to do a little fiddling to get it in. Just secure good lighting and give it a try.

...and perhaps a word on estimated arrival dates...!?
Thanks in advance...

Hi Stan,
thank you for the answer. It works but there really is no "reserve power". I am considering buying the Bachmann 5Amp Power Booster 44910 to solve the problem once and for all. Do I need an additional separate power supply for this booster or does it work with the Dynamis power supply? If an additional part is needed, is the booster compatible with German standard power supplies?

The track is new LGB track with new LGB connector wires (clamps) to the Dynamis and the Shay is brand new out of the box. My Dynamis is used but functioned well on my On30 layout up to now. And the power used is free from any large power spikes...

Ok, so just again for the disbelieving silly me: It will run and the sounds will operate without any of the booster stuff and electrical corrections claimed necessary elsewhere?

Hunt, thank you for the quick answer. Is the programming necessary to get the loco operating with the Dynamis or is it just a recommendation? My main concern is whether the large Shay will operate in spite of the relatively low 2.3 amps of the Dynamis.

Large / Dynamis DCC and 3-truck-Shay
November 12, 2011, 04:06:36 PM
Completely confused by reading about 1000 (?) VERY technical posts here on the topic "current draw and dcc controllers" I have one VERY simple question: I have a Bachmann Dynamis infrared DCC controller without any booster (15.5 volts, 2.3 amp) and would like to use it to control a single brand new large scale Bachmann 3-truck-Shay factory-equipped with Tsunami-sound on a simple straight piece of track about 6 feet long, no load, no grades. Will it work operating the loco and the sound system?
Thanks for any SIMPLE answer...

On30 / new Heislers
October 04, 2011, 05:15:37 PM
I wonder when the new On30 Heislers will be available. Announcements are one thing, actual delivery another as we all know from past new On30 locos. In this case I am more optimistic that the little cuties will be on the tracks before Christmas because the log skidders, announced the same time, are already on sale. Is this optimistic view realistic?

Short ps: F11 works dimming headlights on my sound-equipped Shay and Climax but not on the new Porter...

Sorry to have to say that this is not the case. I have tried it with my Bachmann Dynamis and F11 is without any function on my brand new out of the box Porter 28203, of which I do NOT say where I bought it and at what price. Someone in my separate thread "dimming headlights" gave some CV-values some time ago that might have worked but they were extinguished from this forum who knows why...
