It is the programming of the decoder.

Read Digitraxx's manual on setting the CV's

"LHS" is Local Hobby Shop"
The N&W apparently did have some Pennsy Pacifics, but not the K-4.  But Virginian would know best.
Gene

The N&W bought some PRR K3 4-6-2 and classified them E3.  They were scrapped in 1945/46.

There was a long series of articles in Model Railroading (MRG) magazine several years ago on converting a Spectrum K4 into a N&W E3 (could also be followed to make a PRR K3).

The N&W used thier streamlined K2 and K2a 4-8-2 (USRA Heavy and copies) on both frieght and passenger trains.

  • reduce the steepness of the grade.
  • increase the wieght inside the locomotive, but this may lead to failure of the drive axles.
  • if failure occurs, consider the Bowser repower kit.
  • make the tender into a booster using model diesel locomotive components.

I just bought one.  Like Nigel described, it's powered by two D cell batteries.  I assembled it, turned it on, the wire glowed red and snapped.  Thoughts?
Gene

Gene;

It was probably a defect in the wire.

Alco/GE/Ingersol-Rand built it.

The MDC/Roundhouse model was sort of based on it, but the model is only a fair representation.  They show up on e-bay from time to time.

Hi Lanny;

I have two hot "knives" that are very different.

One is a battery (2X D-cells) powered hot wire that I purchased at Hobby Lobby.  It cuts very well and fairly quickly, but it can only get about 4" into a piece of foam, and is limited to about 1" thick foam.  I am very pleased with it, and it was rather inexpensive.

The other one I have I made from a soldering gun.  The "blade" is a piece of 12 guage copper wire bent into shape, flattened and trimmed at the end.  It makes rather sloppy cuts, but can do deep plunges.  Given that you can get a soldering gun for well under $10 (Harbor Frieght), it is also rather inexpensive.

I have not seen any strings with these two tools cutting extruded foam.

I think the Sectrum cars scale out at about 60'

The Spectrum cars are 80 feet.

22" is very very tight for them.

HO is 1/87.1 or 3.5mm to a foot

S is 1/64 or 3/16" to a foot

O is 1/48 or 1/4" to a foot in the USA, but in the UK it is 1/43.5 or 7mm to a foot.

Nails do NOT work into foam; and they distort the track.

I recommend against using nails for laying premade track.

It is highly unlikely to ge the amount of glue you used.

More likely, it that you did not adequately clamp the track in place for a long enough time while the adhesive sets.  It should be clamped for at least 24 hours (48 hours preferred) in a warm dry environment, longer if it is cooler, and much much longer if the humidity is high.

I use cans of food and drink to clamp the track in place, about 1lb for every six inches or so of track.

As far as removal goes - soak it with water, and pry up with a putty knife between the track and the foam.  The adhesive can be pulled off the track.  Soaking it helps.

HO / Re: ok anyone got one of these for sale?
February 19, 2007, 08:32:37 PM
The model was imported by Model Power from Brazil.  They stopped importing it several years ago.  There were also 0-8-0 and 4-6-0 versions with the same superstructure.  It has a motor in the tender, the locomotive is just a dummy.  They show up from time to time on e-bay.

If they are making all those, surely they can send Phily a hundred or so.
.......

Maybe not.  It depends on the business license they have in China.  Many companies cannot export anything but "value added assemblies".  A trailing truck by itself may not be considered to have enough value add.

It is HIGHLY unlike that Bachmann would pursuing making an HO scale model of a Heisler because the Rivarossi tooling still exists, and they will most like re-introduce the model in the future.

Ordering from Trainworld is safe - I have been doing business with them for more than 25 years.
