HO / ho turntable
January 10, 2018, 07:48:40 PM
Has anyone used the Bachmann TT with code 83 track.   I understand the bridge is code 100 and it is not possible to change the rail size.  Adjustments would need to be made where the code 83 meets the code 100.   Any comments?    Thanks.

Might give the added weight a try.   How did you remove the smoke box front.   I don't want to harm the paint or the plastic.
   Thanks.

hummmmmm.....some one must own one of these.   Would appreciate an answer for an unmodified engine.   Thank you.

Might some one give me an estimate of the number of freight cars that the light Bachmann Mikado should be able to pull?  I understand that "mileage" may vary with type and care of the cars.
   Thanks.

HO / sound in a consolidation?
September 27, 2017, 10:24:45 AM
Bachmann's consolidations look nice.   I heard they run ok.   But sound is missing.   After being in the hobby in Large scale for a loooong time, I have had to switch scales.  How much work would it take to get a sound module in a recent Bachmann consolidation?
  Thanks.

HO / Re: volume with BAchmann EZ command
September 16, 2017, 10:06:12 AM
I did note this:
    if the BLI is producing a sound and the red LED is flashing because you have pressed the yellow button;
press the # 8 button somewhat rapidly (if you press it once, the sound is turned off) an even number of times (example 10 or 12 times) the volume WILL decrease.  If you do this too many times the volume will begin to increase again.

This does not change the start up sound value however.  It will be back at the same level the next time you use the engine.

HO / passenger cars
April 04, 2017, 01:24:53 PM
YYYYYYYYeeeeeeaaaaarrrrrrsssss  ago a company called Roundhouse (I think) made something called Harriman passenger cars, with the baggage, observation, etc...and they were short.  I don't think the were exact models of a prototype, but they looked ok going around smaller radius curves.   I am just returning to HO (if my eyes let me.....been in large scale for a long time) and wondering if there are equivalent cars still available.
    Thanks for the help.

General Discussion / dcc reverse loops
March 10, 2017, 04:43:15 PM
Probably been covered several dozen times here....but how many dpdt toggles are necessary for an engine to enter and leave a reverse loop in dcc?  Some articles I have read show one and others show two.   Using two seems to make more sense to me because the "main" would have to be altered once the engine is in the loop and must come out the other side which must be matching.   It obvious I don't use dcc at the moment....but I am hoping.  Thank you.

HO / Re: false uncoupling

As Flare pointed out....I don't think there are springs on the couplers. When using a magnifier, I cannot see any springs on the couplers.  ( I am still used to working in Large scare) I remember.....back in the day, Kadee's did have springs.   There are none on the side of the couplers included in the Bachmann set that I have.  Is This the reason there is a bit of trouble?

HO / Re: false uncoupling

by false uncoupling I mean: when the train is moving slowly, the cars will UNcouple, breaking up the train.  When looking closely at the cars, it is apparent that the cars do not move smoothly.   There is a small change in tension at the couplers as the cars roll "unsmoothly." I have done a bit of reading and many modelers do not recommend lubing the axles because this eventually leads to collection of dirt and dust....and oil drips on the track.   Any advice?

HO / false uncoupling
January 25, 2017, 05:16:42 PM
Purchased a Bachmann set and an uncoupling magnet to see how HO performs.   It was the ECHO VALLEY
I have large scale set up presently.   Engine was not dependable and was sent for repair.   It has been gone several weeks, so impatience got the best of me and I ordered a 4 6 0.   Much more dependable.   Runs very smoothly.  BUT no matter how smoothly the engine moves at slow speeds, there is a LOT of false uncoupling with the cars when they pass over the magnet.   If this is a common occurance with HO, I would find it really irratating.  Can anyone speak from experience and tell me if this is common with HO scale?

Thought I would bump this up again; in hopes of getting a couple more responses.      A big thing is:  I notices that the Bachmann's On30 2-8-0 is no longer in production.   Don't see it in stock in most places.  I can't image my railroad with out a consolidation.   Is there hopes that It might come back to the market place??
Thanks.

Hummmmmm....I guess I did not make my point very well.    Hopeful input would be from those who model in HO and ON30 since I would be moving to those scales.....rather than keeping in the same scale  LARGE
