Waiting to see how the "new"drive system holds up. I have the 2 truck version & am eagerly awaiting the NWSL gears.
I have never preordered anything.  It will probably be available later at a lower price.  But if you don't like waiting............

I had the exact feeling as I slipped the screwdriver under the first clip.  Some are easier than others...like most things, the first one is the toughest.  Slide a small thin blade screwdriver under the end & twist.  You don't have to take anything else apart.    The Best....jerry

Doesn't sound like lube to me, especially the shake. Sounds like a split gear or more. Very common in the P2K. Walthers used to provide replacements free for every P2K that you owned.  I think they ended this program, but the parts are still available.  Just snap the bottom gear cover off, pull out & replace all gearsets, lube & snap the cover back on. I have heard that the Athearn wheelsets also fit.   The best...jerry

Do you mean that the screws or the holes that hold the bottom plate are stripped?  Did you get this new? if not maybe a previous owner stripped the holes out & glued the plate in.
Even if you do get the gear off, your only chance of a replacement is to find something from NWSL.  Luck...jerry

You probably got the new gears. I heard they have a shoulder to give more strength  around the hole to eliminate the splitting problem. Not much good if they won't go on .

You could pack a lot of bird shot in the loco to add weight. I do that with some small locos.

I'll have to check that out when I attempt to put a decoder in.   Thanks

They really aren't good pullers....very light. Mine also needs "spotless" track.

On30 / Bachmann 2-6-0

How dependable is the Bachmann 2-6-0 engine ( the one that comes with the train sets)   ? Thinking about getting into On30, along with my hO layout & Garden RR.

Try North west Short Lines. They manufacture a LARGE selection.

I second the motion. Go with the Kadees while you are at it. It won't take any longer & they have overset & underset couplers that make height adjustment easier & they will last longer.     Jerry

Tichy Train Group makes a large assortment of framed windows. Follow the link above to see their what hey have. Trust me, they make good details, and nice kits. I believe the windows that are identical to what your looking for are on the last page. (Page 3 for me).

Cheers,
Joshua
[/quote    Yes, I use Tichy products whenever i can, but the question was about painting some of the windows out. I already have the windows mounter. Just want to come up with some kind of pattern. Can't take it off afterwards.

Thanks, must have missed that one.   Not sure about the welding.  The blocked out windows were usually on the top floors & being a welder I don't think much welding was done on the top floors. First, because of the wooden floors & secondly, because of experience,I know that most welding produces something bigger & heavier & you wouldn't want to carry it down 3 or 4 flights of steps.  I would agree that it would work on the ground floor.  Jerry

General Discussion / Industrial windows
March 19, 2010, 01:21:38 PM
I know I've seen older industrial buildings with some of the windows painted out, usually green or white. can't find any on the net & was wondering if any of you remember seeing this also. I'm making a mill turned warehouse & would like to include this feature, but would like to know if anyone could direct me to some pictures.  I think the workers did this to block the sun.  Thanks   Jerry

I did google it & only got the Bowser site where it says that they are no longer available. All other sites are reviews or spare parts.   Thanks

HO / Bowser Docksider w/ can motor
March 13, 2010, 10:31:47 AM
Does anyone know of anyone that still stocks the Bowser docksider 0-4-0 . with the can motor & gearbox.  I have one of the older ones with open frame motor & it would probably be cheaper to buy one that already has the can motor & gearbox than convert mine.   Thanks....jerry
