is the black roadbed track a problem to use , will it stop the train, is it a big issue that requires a lot of maintenance or just not worth having

no no I'm not gonna use a car battery it was just a "for instance" just to say that any 12v source will power the switch , when you said coil I was totally hip as I am a heating and air tech and 24v coils are used for everything involved in turning on the equipment as far as control goes

yeah if were looking at the same one I can assure you it will go up before ending cause people have just got to be top bidder at all cost ...if they would wait till the end of the auction it would be a lot cheaper...you know the five minute fight

I totally get it ...the motor that works the switch is isolated from the track, I thought the track gave the switch its power and the button just completed the circuit to move it either way but the track just keep feeding which ever way the switch is going, it has nothing to do with the motor of the switch...so your saying any 12v power supply will work the switch whether the train transformer is plugged in the wall or not...even a car battery for instance

jbsmith thanks for the info..hopefully mom will want to play also and believe you me he will understand from the start that the train is different than his other toys...the only thing he has really been rough with are the johnny lightning herbie the love bug cars and the 1/25 maisto (spelling??) die cast but I think they are not the best quality as far as being played with , more for looks...but to be 4yo he is really smart and understands things and has respect for what we teach him or maybe I'm just bias lol but thanks a lot to all who have and will reply till I get the jist of things

Full Maxx, I realize you want HO scale, but, Lionel makes an O gauge Polar Express Set, but , Bachmann makes the Pere Marquette number 1225, which is the actual engine used in the movie (I've seen it in real life). If you still want HO Scale but want a full Polar Express set, you could buy the O gauge set, and still buy other things in HO scale.
the lionel set is a little bigger than we have room for considering future expansion ... there is a train store in Greensboro that the owner may be able to put the numbers and wording on the Pere Marquette and the passenger cars that come with the explorer set after I paint them to match the polar express considering if they come apart...I use to put together 1/24 model cars and paint them to pretty fair detail but I just can't do the numbers and lettering and I will be posting pics during progress and construction
