Go to the IHC website, you will find most everything in stock.

Also they have four new DCC equipped loco's.

IHC is very much in business.

Their demise is a malicious rumor.

You should be ok with 18 - 20ga wire.

Don't buy the wire at your LHS, you will pay too much.

Buy 100ft rolls in three different colors and make your own cable.

You can get it here.

http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/825450/Wire-/-Cable/Hook-Up-100-Rolls-/1.html

You can get 300ft of wire for about $24.

You're welcome.

It's nice to hear that your posts are helpful, thanks.

I'll have to check out that MDT switcher, it might make a
nice On30 critter.

On30 / Re: Bachmann 2-8-0 Head Light Failure

FYI the lights in the On30 2-8-0 are led's, and the resistors are on the circuit board.

If you need to replace the board, why not hard wire the decoder and eliminate the
problem completely.  Use a 680 - 750ohm resistor for each led.

One other check, are you able to read any voltage between pin 6 (White) wire
and pin 7 (Blue) wire  on the decoder plug when the headlight is turned on?

You should read ~12v at this point.  The blue pin7 is + The white pin6 is - .
If you do read a voltage then check that pin 6 is not broken or bent.

Another place that I have found problems is the headlight connectors in the smokebox.
I have found the wire broken inside the shrink tubing on one of the connectors, and
being held in place by the shrink tubing.

If you get the voltage and the connectors are Ok, then the circuit board is at fault.

I never use the circuit board in any loco I always hard wire.

Nigel's suggestion is right on the mark.

The sound bug is an excellent low cost way to get
good sound.

The Dynamis out put is in line with the recommended track voltage of 14v max.

All the major systems use 13.8v max for H0.  Digitraxx  uses 12v max for N, 13.8
for H0, and 22v for large 0 and G.

The EZ-Command is actually out of spec for H0 and N, at 16v.

This is probably done to get UL and CSA  approval.  It is sold as a toy.

General Discussion / Re: DCC On Board with DC Layout

The board is the decoder, your only option is to disconnect the motor leads from the board
and connect them to the red and black tie points.  This will bypass the decoder and the loco
will function as a normal DC loco.  It will not harm the decoder, and you can revert to DCC
by simply reconnecting to the original points.

Let the decoder operate the lights.

Peco makes 0n30 code 100 flex track and switches (Turnouts), LID makes switches (turnouts)

in several codes.  Micro Engineering Co. makes flex track and turnouts.

Your comparison of a resistor to a motor is apples and oranges.

A motor is an inductor not a resistor the reaction to a 50% duty cycle
applied voltage will be entirely different.

The #148 shank is slightly thicker than the #5.

I have found that I have to file the shank when replacing 'Accumate'
and similar couplers on factory equipped cars and loco's, because the
pockets are shallower.  I think that Kadee did this to retrofit into a #5
box without the flat spring.

DCC ready means it is set up to receive a decoder, it does not have one.
There are jumpers on the decoder socket to allow it to run on DC.

You will need to determine if it has a decoder, or if the jumpers are missing.

If it has a decoder and you want to use it take the loco to someone who has
a DCC system capable of programming decoders have him set the decoder for analog
operation.  You will need to identify the Mfg as they may not all use the same CV or code
for the change.  If you don't want to use the decoder, replace the jumpers in the socket.

Many 0n30 guys are using link and pin couplers with short cars to operate on tight radius curves.

FootHill Model works has L & P couplers in plastic.

There are others in die cast metal.
