Thomas & Friends / Re: Dear Bachmann: Breakdown Train!
December 05, 2010, 05:59:46 PM
I agree 100% with your reasoning, Sparks. Might I add, if it wasn't already in the post you had, that with the Breakdown Train being sold in different parts would add up profits comparable to that of Rocky by himself. If someone, such as I, were to buy the Breakdown Train items, I wouldn't having a problem buying two sets of the crane and flat wagon and one works unit coach, and it would add up.

If I were to be making decisions in Bachmann Industries, I would be bought on the idea of the Breakdown Crane and Flat Car as an item, and then maybe even the Works Unit Coach as well.

Besides if you want a Rocky just paint and modify the Hornby Breakdown Train.

If I'm correct with my assumption, you'd need a lot of plasticard.

Cheers to All

P.S. Let our wishes be greatly considered by whom it may concern.

Or send him to Bachmann. Isn't there a lifetime warranty or at least some kind of warranty.

I wanna see the face from the truck pictured at the bottom right. I always thought that one looked the funniest :P
Which truck theres 3 of them.
The one to the "far right" the other 2 are more to the middle :P

I always thought that was first used in season 5 in Haunted Henry. You can only wonder what T.T. #3 will bring.

They're not grey in that picture either.

Yea, They are black in that picture

I think we got that. It is easy to tell because the axle boxes (?) on the sides of his tender are black, which indicates wheel color change.

If Bachmann made their LS James like this, then why not the HO one? by that I mean the smokebox, wheels, couplings etc.

I've said that enough to almost wear it out. I wish it would happen, but I guess I'll have to stick with butchering my James.

Dear Fighter,
Take a look at the step-by-step layout photos I've posted. I'll bet there's not a single step that you couldn't do. Take it a step at a time and your layout will look just as nice. Try it- you'll surprise even yourself!
Have fun!
the Bach-man
I did go through the step by step photos. Since I'm just starting out, I know nothing about the mechanics of model trains... so far I just know I need to have the transformer plugged into the track to get em to move :P

Other than that, I don't have any types of tools to do any cutting of materials or stuff like that. It looks like it would take a lot of money to get it looking so awesome :)

Understandable, same here, mine took 3, 4 years to build, but it was worth it in the end.

My layout is at least 2 years old and the track isn't even completely laid yet. I'm taking my time because it is worth it in the end - just as SodorAdventures said. It is really fun, especially a freelanced layout. Personally, I wouldn't want to make a duplicate of Bachmann's layout.

If you want to make a layout, even if it is just track, all you need to know is that one wire is positive and one is neutral/ground. (There is no "true" negative.) Positive goes into one rail, and ground goes into the other. The engine completes the circuit that the rails combined with the transformer are attempting to make. Voila! You just learned the basics of wiring a model railroad.

Using E-Z track is even "E-Z-er" (applause for the pun), but it's all your choice. I personally prefer no roadbed attached to the rails so I go with the classic stuff.

As the Bach-man always says: "Have fun!"

You could use the bandai Lady or ertl, but bandai is more accurate if you ask me.
I saw a Japanese youtuber who did that exact thing... but, I'm not a model train mechanic :P

You mean TopkazFatt? He seems to be an amazing modeller. He recreated Ellsbridge Yard from Season 2 of the TV Series!

(Anyone know how to embed a video without just adding the URL? That would be nice.)

2011? Bachmann isn't Learning Curve.. they can't make that much. :P

if only...

I'm almost happy that this is the case. While they produce a fraction of other toy-makers, they have an exponential increase in quality and detail!  :D I'm looking forward to the 2011 year, but I think I need to go out and purchase Bill and Ben first... ::) :)

for this might change because i still might get it for christmas but i will be using a different turntable, one that is less "sticky" :-\

As for the turntable: I don't think "sticky" is the right term to use. I believe it has something to do with the gears used to make the turntable "crank". The first gear is basically the handle/crank. That probably has a smaller gear and down the line the turntable itself has a larger gear. This provides more power with a good speed because a smaller gear is faster and connected to a larger gear, which has much more torque. There is probably a lag somewhere in the gear train.

If not I couldn't really explain why that it acts the way it does. I think it is a good model if you aren't going for perfect accuracy, but if you are also not using E-Z track, then I would find other alternatives.

Cheers

Granted modeling Hank would be easier to do than othe characters for one prime reason, his model is easy to get in the states. Plus, I like how HiT gave Hank and Ferdinand buffers although they are American engines.

BUT only rear buffers, for obvious reasons. Dan is good at his projects. He's modeled many. Just look at the whole blog.

TOMY faces I presume. I give credit to Daniel, the maker of these and MANY more. He's even made Harvey. For a modeling project, he has done well.

Or don't treat your models as toys.  ::)
Really name one youtuber that has broken Bachmann thomas engines

That has broken them? I would think that few YouTubers that actually treat them like models break their engines. When you see an engine flying off of a table and three feet to the ground... the trains are not meant to survive without some destruction/damage.

Im just saying two things: 1: Happy Birthday to me. and 2: If T.T. 3 is a van wouldnt just use the toolings of of the vent. van? Look at the diffrent T.T.s and open cargo wagons they have the sme toolings but different colors, same goes for the tankers.

There's more than one type of van. There's the CCT Van (Mail Van painted brown), Salt Van, Vent. Van, and other vans short and tall.

Notice that there are more than the above listed in the following picture:

(Property of TTTE Wikia (not sure if this is against certain rules :P))

-Yes, 50% of them are ventilated vans, but there is that dark colored van with the huge face up in front that is no ventilated van (or at least one like all of the others), and on that same track at the back there are two smaller vans coupled to a cattle wagon (they are not ventilated vans, at least not like the common ventilated van).

1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY
  2. Yeah, but TT 3 will be as I can promise you, just another open wagon with a different face.  :P

Bachmann has a lot of options. The entire web-page that I used for a source shows that "Troublesome Trucks" are more than just wagons. There is no definite statements as of now confirming that Troublesome Truck #3 is a wagon. There are many options, even odd ones such as troublesome cattle wagons or tankers.

I wouldn't mind a troublesome van myself, but either way I'm interested to see the face Bachmann gives it. :)

CAB?! Wow, I'm surprised. I did drop James on his cab once and he's fine, but that really surprises me. I thought I just got pretty lucky.

or these, minus duck:

THE LAST PICTURE IS PERFICT THAT'S WHAT THEY SHOULD DO WITH ALL THE VAN'S AN TRUCK'S, AND ONE OF THEM IS A COAL TRUCK, WHY DIDN'T THE NEW COAL TRUCK HAVE THAT FACE I WONDER

If you look close enough, there are only 3 different faces really. Both wagons have the same faces and both vans have the same faces, with the exception of the last one. Bachmann probably would incorporate more variety and not just put the same face on every van, truck, etc. but I like the idea of more of a TV-Series-esque face. I'd like to see a van with a face. *Cough* Troublesome Truck #3 *Cough*

I've been wanting my locos to have different facial expressions for awhile and I wasn't sure what to do. But then a light from above shone down on the left-hand button called "ORDER PARTS", where I found face plates for most of the wonderful Bachmann T&F models  ;D I decided to buy some (well, I decided for my mom to buy some FOR me :P) and I modified them a bit and THESE are the RESULTS!

Order parts is now called "Parts & Service" and it is located at the top of the web-page. The faces are a couple of dollars each and you have to make your own expression out of the happy face. I'm not sure of his methods, but I would bet that he used something to carve away at the smile, etc. and just changed the entire face. You can't just buy the faces, you have to make them.

Cheers
