N / Re: N Scale Acela Express
February 27, 2010, 01:41:56 AM
I got the set for xmas and after trying to get the set to stay on the track i just sent it back. I had 19" radius but the Acela just kept derailing and the coupling system  sucks. I don't reccommend this set.

I use the power cab and had no problems programming in the ops mode. Also take the shell off and tighten the 3 screws of the frame halves. Really makes a difference on how the DD runs.

N / Re: Upgrading DDA40X Couplers?
August 26, 2009, 05:11:01 PM
I have only seen them in pictures and being a UP fan a DD40AX was a must have when announced by Bachmann. I don't think you will see anybody else make this unit anytime soon. I picked my units yesterday at the  LHS and i was expecting something on the order of frankenstein after reading all the posts about this unit on some other forums. But to say the least i am very happy, not perfect but with some work and detailing i'll be very happy. I thought the trucks would be a big glob of molten metal according to the experts but they are not that bad, with some fine tuning and weathering they will look great.  It just goes to show never beleive what you read on those forums, look at the item yourself and then make your decision. Btw one poster lamented the fact the the front pilot looked sparten, HELLO, have they ever seen the real thing!!!!

I have looked at the couplers and i can say that i am stumped on what coupler if any will fit. It seems this is going to be a custom build to fit a MTL coupler. If anybody comes up with a solution please post it so us DD40AX's can have a good looking and operating coupler. I also agree C855B that the unit is not as bad as some people are making it out to be. I think for a street price of around $75.00 and some of my effort i can make it into a nice addition to my UP fleet.

How do you know? Do you work for Bachmann?  Hey Bach Man what is the answer?

Yea, i would have preferred the closed or non-swinging pilot but i just hope it looks good, hard to tell from the pics. on this site.

Picked mine up today and it is the best little engine you can buy. Smooth and quiet. Great job bachmann. Now if the DD40AX is just as good i'll be in heaven.

I would like to see any of the UP turbines or a UP 9000 4-12-2 or the UP FEF (4-8-4)

N / Re: Where is the DD40AX?

According to a post on the Atlas site, a gentleman talked to a bachmann rep at the Concord, Ca. show and he said they will be coming in October, oh well my wallet needs a rest.
