HO / Re: Amfleet Passenger Cars Redux

Try PROTO 1000 or 2000 wheelsets by life like.  You'll have to ut the spikes on the outside of each wheel set and grind it down so that it is flush with the wheel.  The axles is smaller.   I've used Northwest Shortline wheelsets for my Walthers Amfleets also but I think the former may be the way to go.

Also add conducta lube to the wheel bearings.

Hope this helps!

Don't forget this resource:

http://www.modelmemories.com/

They do pennsy and NH style catneary (Both found on the NEC)

Modeling the NEC is never cheap but if done right; worth the time and money

I hope that Bachmann has considered adjusting their packaging methods so that people know what road numbers are in the box.

It's nice to meet a down-to-earth vendor who is willing to open the package to see what road number is for you.  We need more vendors like this but in all vendors' defense; they shouldn't be placed in this position.

Suggestion to Bachmann (I forget if the packaging is already like this.):

Do not seal the box top and box together.  Make it possible to remove the box top without breaking the seal so the actual model can be seen.  A stock photo is not enough.  It wouldn't matter so much if there were decals readily available to renumber these cars.

HO / Re: Un-coupling device
August 21, 2009, 07:56:53 AM
I had the same concerns as ebtbob when I purchased Kadee's delayed magnetic uncoupler.  I installed min in the middle of the ladder for my terminal.  My fear was that if an engine stalled while terminating (which is common in this section of the layout) the cars would uncouple.

I just installed the device yesterday and it works beautifully.  The delayed action uncoupler allows you to stop the consist over it (if necessary) with couplers over the magnet without uncoupling them.  In order for them to uncouple, one of the cars would have to be reversed slightly while still over the magnet.  I tested this over and over with trains operating in push and pull mode and there was no unwanted uncoupling.

I don't know if I'd risk installing them on the mainline though.  If it was a necessity, I'd recommend a magnetic uncoupler that is activated by a switch (if the layout can accommodate it.

I plan to install sound in my HHPs.

FYI,

The prototype does make sounds.  Aside from (IMO) unique sounding horn, bell that every locomotive has, the locomotives traction motor has a wine and blower sound.  It humms constantly.  Once the locomotive is "cruising" you don't hear it as much but the sound is there and you don't have to concentrate much to hear it.

It may not have the hiss of a steam engine or the roar of a diesel locomotive but it still deserves consideration for sound.

QSI Solutions has plans to make sound files available for the Acela and HHP (virtually the same prime mover).

Thanks Conrail Quality!  It was my pleasure  :).

I checked the page again and all the photos showed up.  Try it again and let me know if it works or not.  If it doesn't, email me and I'll try and send photos directly (I'll take time to find them in the collection).

Maybe I'll see you at Timonium in a couple of weeks!

HO / AEM7AC Rebuild Progress
October 02, 2007, 08:19:21 AM
Ok guys,

Despite my hectic schedule since the start of the school year (Grad School), I finally found time to continue with my AEM7AC rebuild project and update the page.

I've been asked about that page at shows and emails and I've finally moved ahead with the project.

Here's the link: http://www1.freewebs.com/marylindsayrr/rebuild%20projects/rebuildAEM7AC.html

Also note that I removed the logos from 927. Many pointed out (when the logos were originally present on the model) frantically that the prototype does not have the logos but I originally did this knowingly with the anticipation of the prototype having the logos applied. Of course now that I removed them, I'm sure the prototype has them now but I plan to leave it "bare" with respect to the markings.

I hope it is meeting your expectiations. Some painting here and there remains but the only thing left is virtually the working ditch and strobe lights.
