HO / Re: Worth the price?

I'd think you did okay.  It appears that you'll be needing metal wheelsets and kadee's for those.  I've found the Roundhouse rolling stock to be great right out of the box.

I have a four piece set of Roundhouse Boston and Maine observation cars that are fantastic.  I upgraded to Kadee's and they are one of the highlights of a op session at the club.

Did you also get the kits for the $44?  They look like they'll be needing both new wheelsets and kadees too.

The Bach-man was NOT flamed by me!!!

. . . . I think we all know some locomotives have specific requirements in addition to general lubrication practices.
ta152h0,
Give examples of locomotives and their specific requirements not covered in my suggestion.

I was "flaming" nobody either.  Is this not a forum for comments and suggestions?   ???

And if some locos have more specific requirements than others should that particular loco not come with some sort of instruction pamphlet or at least a piece of paper identifiying such requirements?

We are not all seasoned veterans here.  We all are still learning.  I found Hunts instructions very helpful.  I printed them out, laminated them, and have them stuck to the wall near my working table.  Thanks Hunt!

I'm writing this assuming that Mr Bach-mann is reviewing these messages.

Is it possible, in furure releases, to include a pamphlet in each and every locomotive showing the new owner when and how to perform simple maintenance?  Just something showing lubrication points would be a huge help.  Not all of us have been at this hobby for 20 years and know what to do and when to do it.

It may even help in the long run by keeping some returns for "a strange sound or squeal" from happening!

HO / Lubrication for a 2-8-0 Spectrum
October 05, 2008, 08:13:06 AM
Last night "down at the club" I started hearing some interesting sounds in my 2-8-0.  I'm assuming that after 10 or so hours on the track it's time for a good cleaning and lubrication.  So here is my question.  What do I do?  There are no directions included with the engine that let me know what and when to perform maintenance.

Is there anyone that can help me?

HO / Small steam dcc and sound question
September 24, 2008, 07:11:16 AM
Is the same sound decoder installed in all the 4-4-0's, 4-6-0's, and 2-8-0's that come factory installed?  I heard a 4-6-0 on youtube and it sounded an awful lot like my 2-8-0.  Can these sounds be changed?  As you can probably tell I now little about the whole dcc and changing CV's.

Thanks.

HO / Future Releases, how it it determined?
September 23, 2008, 08:53:56 AM
So how is this done?  I'm obviously not in marketing or sales.  How it it determined that there is a need, or want, by the public for a particular road name or wheel arraingement?  This is not a rant of "why is there not some road name in this wheel arraingement" or "why is there not a HO Spectrum 2-6-0 Mogul" or anything like that.

I'm just curious if posting suggestions on this, or any other forum really makes a darn bit of difference.  Is anyone really listening to the Model Railroaders questions and suggestions out here?

I'll take any dcc ready Spectrum line 2-6-0.  Kinda partial to a B&M B-15, but I digress....

2 recommendations and you can pick one or the other.

1.  Subscribe to Model Railroader.  They have a website that offers free trackplans to all subscribers.  And the magazine is worth every penny.

2.  Hit your local hobby shop and buy a track planning book.  You'll save time and money in the long run...

Question.

Where is the Bach-Mann?  No response?  I hope that this is not falling on deaf ears!!!

There sure seems to be "some" interest in a dcc Thomas.

HO / Re: Radius minimums for HO Steam Locos

The adveritzed may be 18 inch radius, but I would recommend nothing smaller than 22.  Broader is better.
Gene

My 2-8-0 Spectrum has no problem with 18" radius.  And I would recommend nothing smaller.  Getting down to a 15" radius means you will be running small switchers only ( 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 ) and rolling stock of 40' or shorter.  I think that at 18" you can pretty much run anything short of articulated steamers and 80' passenger cars.

What are the "F" Codes?  I have numbers on my NCE Power Cab that operate the sounds, but nothing with an "F".  Is that a Bachmann dcc thing?

My 2-8-0 has a factory installed Tsunami.  Is there a way of changing the horn and bell sounds?  I cannot find the info anywhere in the documents that came with it.  I like the factory ones, but I am curious as to what else "is in there".

HO / 2008 releases in May ( this month ) ???
May 07, 2008, 08:15:32 AM
Does anyone know when the new releases are supposed to "hit the street"?  I found on several different websites that they are due in 2008.  I found 4-6-0's, 4-4-0's, and three truck Shays that are sound and dcc equipped with the Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders.

My LHS does not know but is guessing at this month?
