Dear All,
As far as I know, the drive remains the same. The specific motor may have changed.
Have fun!
the Bach-man

It was the Bach-man who informed us that the electric motor had changed from a 5 pole to a high performance 3 pole, the engine was still a spectrum at that time.

There were a lot of discussion about the 3 pole vs the 5 pole after this announcement. All I know is that I was very content with the performance of my last purchase of the Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 with the factory sound. It has the 3 pole motor and its performance is to this day, great, to say the least.

HO / Re: What if Bachmann made a 2-6-6-0?
August 07, 2013, 05:41:06 PM
The 2-6-6-0 looks really awesome. I would definetly pick up one or two if Bachmann decided to make the.

I remember reading an article that CPR had built a small number of 0-6-6-0 to test out on the Rocky Mountains. Unfortunately these engines did not meet CPR's expectations and after a few years they were rebuilt as 2-10-0's at the CPR's shop.

Consider yourself lucky, when I sent in an old 2-8-0 (with smoke) I was told the only locomotive that was available was a 2-6-2.

I asked it I could pay an additional fee and get something else. I was told no.

I asked if I could wait until there were other locomotives available, answer was no.

I took the 2-6-2 as it was that or the old locomotive coming back. I now wish i had taken the old locomotive back. I had forgot that a replacement drive train and motor are still being made, or at least still for sale.

Anyway I did complain on this board and received a PM from the Service Department.

I was told I should have had an option for another locomotive, but as they had mailed it out it was too late.

I do not know whey they bothered to send me the PM.

I would gladly paid more for a standard 2-8-0 or the new 2-6-0 (without DCC)

Bachmann has not added an exploded plan for the Standard 2-8-0, all of the plans for the 2-8-0 are DCC ready, DCC on board, and DCC/Sound on board. My last two 2-8-0's were with the sound. I have  around half a dozen of these.

The other locomotive that I sort of stockpiled as well as the 2-8-0 was the Heavy 4-8-2, with that metal superstructure it is heavy and pulls all I would ever need to haul. If I ran across either of these in Spectrum cases I would buy them without hesitation just to keep as a spare.

Gloss Black is too shiny, if you want to portray a new steam locomotive right our of the shop on its arrival, gloss black would be fine, otherwise for a passenger engine kept clean use the satin black finish, has a shine but not too much.

For freight engines with a minimum of cleaning Flat Black would be fine. remember to use a bit of rust as well, rust formed very quickly on the old steam locomotives.

How quickly did rust form on a new steam locomotive?  ;)

Seriously, I just spray everything with a flat spray, like Dull Cote.  As someone else mentioned, gloss just doesn't scale down but I find that flat un-weathered Dull Cote  looks very acceptable.  Even my motor vehicles get a light spray of Dull Cote to kill that overly glossy factory finish.

Rust forms quite quickly, a few days and you would have rust starting to show. Only around the steam lines where vapour was escaping, the steam line which rang the bell was one of the big culperts. The fireman or oiler on the larger engines used to wipe down the boiler with oil, just about every day. Not the whole boiler, just hear the steam lines where the rust would start.

I remember the post, the motors on the 2-8-0 were changed from a 5 pole to a 3 pole before the 2-8-0's were moved to the Standard line.

However, the posting from MilwaukeeRoadfan261 indicates that is not the case, gone is the belt drive and an idler gear is in its place.

That is why I am asking specifically for the Bach Man to respond.

Was there a change to the drive, yes or no ?

Are you saying that the 2-8-0 which was moved from the Spectrum line to the Standard line does not have a belt drive?

It was my impression that the two engines were exactly the same under the superstructure.

Mr. Bachmann is that not corrrect?

When using EZ track I like to use hot glue to hold the track in place. It holds great, a little along one edge of the track is sufficient.

Should you decide to move the track a sharp knife will break the bond, the glue will peel off and your track is like new with no evidence of glue.

for those using EZ track in their yard areas.

One of the members of the local railroad club has used just EZ track for just about all of his track, including the yard areas. He has filled the areas between the tracks with ballast to the yard area is level.

He has two cinder pits in his layout, and they were built using EZ track, cut with a dremel and the pit areas made from styrene plastic. Looks great,

I have some of my layout built with EZ track, jut the majority of the mainlines, my industrial spurs and yard areas are all built with flex track on 1" foam boards. I have used the new stone acrylic spray paints and they look great. Obviously they work great with foam.

Sure makes it easy to finish the yard areas in what looks like level gravel area. The new Stone multi colour textured spray paints by Krylon and others comes in a number of different colors so the ballast can be matched if required.

In this DDC on board Consolidation, what is the status of the tender re adding sound?  Are their holes for a speaker?  What sound unit is recommended.

Seeing that the Bachmann Standard engines most recently produced such as the Berkshire and the Northerns have their tenders ready for sound I would think the new standard bachmann 2-8-0 would also be ready for sound.

Mr. Bachman, please confirm.

I would have perfered a 2-4-4 forney like the ones in On30.

That would be kinda cool, especially if it were flexible enough to operate on tight radii.

Seems to me I once saw an eBay offering for something similar in wheel arrangement. I seem to remember it was kitbashed out of an old Rivarossi/AHM 2-4-0.

I know that the brass HO versions of the Forney sell for a premium whenever they appear for sale.

I wonder if Bachmann's going to let Blackstone do any HOn3 Forney engines, the HOn3 Blackstone engines and their rolling stock set the bar for detail,

Well I went back to pick up a couple more building kits.

I especially wanted to pickup a few of the the coal bins, as weol as water tanks as well as the mics yard buildings.

It is my intention to build a couple of engine yards in modules that i can alternate.  I want to be able to alternate between the various railroads I am trying to model.

Everything is gone. The sales clerk told me that someone came in and bought all the remaining Bachmann items.

Well, I at least got a few items, wonder who would need that many items.

HO / Bachmann old stock
July 03, 2013, 02:06:34 AM
We have a liquidation chain store in town mall and while I did go in to check it out a few times, there was never anything there that interested me.

All this changed last week, I had just finished shopping in the food store, stocking up on some sale items when I was on the way back to my car.

A man and his son were also returning to their vehicle which was parked next to mine. The boy was fumbling with the shopping bag he carried, he pulled out a black box that looked familiar. It was the shiny black box for the Bachmann Spectrum engines. I was told that the liquidator store had just received some HO train stock.

Well, I was in the store 30 seconds later and amazed at what on the shelves, were HO Spectrum steam engines, they are pre-dcc and there are also old bachmann Plus building kits.

I did pick up a couple of Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0's as well as a few of the kits. the steam engines were $50 and the kits all market at $20.There were a couple of Heavy Mountains as well, but I have enough of those, but then again I may go back.

At least with the EZ turnouts you can still control the switch with the lever mounted on the roadbed.

Tying to mount another switch machine to an EZ turnout will be an exercise in ingenuity.
