On30 / Re: DCC and DC ON THE SAME TRACK

Wally,

If you use the Bachmann EZ Command DCC you can run both DC and DCC equiped locomotives.

I have one that I am finally redetailing with a Banta wood cab, etc.  It makes a great small engine that is at home with Porters.

Also to put things in perspective, what scale is the figure?  If he is 1:22.5 as most large scale figures are, then he is short in 1:20.3 and really short in 1:18.

I have used 1:24 scale cars with 1:22.5 trains with good results.  For my 1:20.3 trains they are much too small.

Every so often you might get lucky in checking with the service department; I have over the years.  At present I need a new wood style Porter cab to back date a saddle tank Porter.  Unfortunately for me the Porter is a very good locomotive with few service issues.

Geezer,

I thought you wanted to replace the LED's with 1.5 volt bulds.

Rather than a 1:20.3 big 2-4-4 Forney like the On30 one, could we have a smaller 0-4-4 like W.W.& F. #10?  A 2-4-4 would need really broad curves.

Some day if Bachmann doesn't make it, I will have to convert an LGB 0-4-4 to 20.3:1.  It would make a smaller Forney more to my liking.

I too would like a model of W.W.& F. #10.  I rode behind it last summer during the narrow gauge convention.  The Indy has the same character as #10 even though it is a totally different design.  Currently I am back dating an Indy I bought a couple of years ago.  I am adding a Banta wood cab that is larger than the stock cab and is in the same style as the cab on # 10.  I like the scale size headlights and am back dating them also along with a number of detail changes.  I understand Norman's desire for a lower boiler.  However the high boiler emphasizes the small size of the Indy and gives it a similar apprearance to W.W.& F. #10.

On30 / Re: Chivers Finelines Caboose

I just tried to upload a picture, but the Bachmann site would not allow it due to too large a size.  I used Grandt Line SR&RL Railcar Pedestials with Kadee 36" (HO) wheels mounted to an inner frame.  I also added larger Grandt Line C&S caboose windows to the sides, replacing the existing window and adding another one for two windows per side.  There were other changes, but the bottom line is that it now sits a little lower and looks great with Porters and gas mechanicals.

I just built one that I converted to two axles.  It definitely needed some weight.

I have been in Large Scale for about 20 years.  LGB generally works great right out the box.  However Bachmann has much better detail (and price)and the quality has been on a constant upswing.  I am using mostly Bachmann motive power for my current F scale "fine scale" modeling.

Large / DCC in a 2-6-0 Indy
February 06, 2008, 10:27:25 PM
I am in the process of finally working on a 2-6-0 I bought awhile back.  I checked an old Model Railroader review that stated it only drew .88 Amps stalled at 20 volts and .14 Amps running freely at 20 volts.  Has anyone had a chance to verify this; it will really help in decoder selection.

Thanks,

Jim

On30 / Re: small Forney for ON30

I would love to have a small Forney like W.W.&F.'s 0-4-4 number 10.

I have a Control Master 20 and always use the higher voltage setting.  It doesn't matter if I am running one or more locomotives.

I have been using golden white LEDs from Richmond Controls.  I find them more like incandescent lamps in color that the Miniatronics LEDs.
