It just pry's off,  I have used a medium side cutter slipping the jaws gently under the pin to get an even lift,  I just gently apply up pressure and push the cutters in further as the pin comes up whuke wiggling it a bir.

Good luck

If you havent done it yet, click on the search button and type in "locolinc"  and you will get some comments on locolinc.

I use it and it works fine, but it may need an antenna booster in some situations.  I also use Aristocrafts new Revolution and it is great too

Hi Rye,

You can't get parts, here on the "ask the Bachmann" forum.   You should call Bachmann at 1-215-533-1600 and ask for the parts department.

Ken,

Wish I could tell you why Bachamnn included an engineer that will not fit in the cab but I can't :o!

I checked my locos and was reminded that he does not fit in either the two window or three window cab.

My solution in both cases was to use a motor tool to do a little surgery.

To put him on the engineers side I cut him from about 1/4 inch below his left armpit on a straightline to the outside of his right hip, cutting the legs off in the process.  This allows you to slide him in through the window and wedge him between the boiler and the cab side.  I cut enough off to get his right arm hanging outside the cab.  This holds him in place I usually have the left hand raised in the cab as though he is blowing the wistle.

On the firemans side just reverse the process and he will appear to be waving his arm at all the railfans if you rotate the left arm upward.

I don't use the guy with the shovel on the 4-6-0, but I have done surgery on him to turn him into an engineer for another loco I have.

I forgot to mention that if you do go outside with your Bachmann track from the set it wil rust out very quickly since it is made only for inside use.  You will need to get a different brand of track such as USA Trains, Aristocraft, or another brand suitable for outside use!!

If y7ou haven't already got a subscription to Garden Railways Magazine, It is not a bad idea even if only for a year,  the articles and the advertizing will give you some good info much like MR for HO!!

Have a great weekend!

Large / Re: Battery Power on a Spectrum 4-4-0
May 01, 2010, 12:16:28 AM
Can't answer directly about the 4-4-0, but my Annies run for 4 hours with either sierra or Phoenix Big sound 97,s with no smoke using a lithiun IOn battery pack  14.8 volt 2600 mah.

My son uses the same battery packs to run 3 USA GP38-2's pulling 18 Aristo 100 ton hoppers and a caboose.  Only one unit has Phoenix sound, no smoke.  Grades are heavy 2.5 to 3%  Run time is about an hour, Yes all six motors on one battery!!!

Both situations are continuous running in my case at medium to low speed, but my son with almost full throttle.    If I even try to run full throttle, it is way to fast (except for my grand daughter)  my Annies pull less than .5 amp when running at medium speed.

You should get at least 1.5 hours with smoke and 3.5 without smoke with a similar battery.  If you are not on a low budget get a 4200 Mah version which I feel certain with give you the two hours you want.  No matter what you do smoke is a mess(gets all over everything) and you will have to  constantly add smoke fluid as it does not last long.  If you are running outside, smoke is a total waste of time except on the stillest of days, and even then well.......

Hopefully someone with have answers for your very specific quiestions, and I offer the above simply as what works for me and my son.

Enjoy your trains!!

I used to be in HO myself,  the wife got a G set for the christmas tree, but at first I was not hooked.  My son went into it big and that got me going.

As for the engineer,  Hmmmm!   I have to check into how I did it.  I will get back to you on that.

Bachmann Steel Alloy track is just fine, if it will be used indoors.  I have seen some really nice (even complex) indoor layouts using it. and it is low cost.  If you will run outside then take Kevin's advice.

Paul,

You may be able to get the part from Bachmann service.   Just press it back in with a tiny bit of super glue on the point.

When calling use the the regular number 215-533-1600

Ken,

Welcome to the hobby!

There are two cab styles and many engineers so it is hard to answer your question on this without seeing them.  In some cases I have had to cut off part of the legs with a motor tool or fine saw to get one in.

The very first Bachmann 4-6-0 Big Haulers were radio control(not very robust), but Bachamnn does not make a radio controlled locomotive any more.   You would have to convert your Annie to Battery/Radio control using aftermarket products.  There are many systems out there each with their own advantages and disadvantages.  If your Annie has a rear headlight it is fairly easy to convert to RC?Batt.

Since you are starting out I would stick with your track power locomotives until you have the chance to look over the various systems.  It can be a large investment, so no need to rush.

Again welcome and enjoy your Annie!!

Murray,

I know of only one version which is the narrow guage 25 ton Class B Climax.

They came out in 2000 and are listed below:

81177   Climax   2   2000   ~ Loco   Climax Demo tapered stack
81178   LRL Co   2   2000   ~ Loco   Climax, 2 truck, Little River Logging Co.
81179   MML Co   4   2000   ~ Loco   Climax, 2 truck, Meadow Mt. Lumber
81180   P&CL Co   6   2000   ~ Loco   Climax, 2 truck, Pardee & Curtin
81181   None   None   2000 Climax, 2 truck, unlettered, tapered stack
81182   MCL Co   4   2000 Climax, 2 truck, Michigan, California
81183   NRL Co   4   2000 Climax, 2 truck, New River Lumber
81184   ETL Co   7   2000 Climax, 2 truck, Ely Thomas diamond stack
81185   None   None   2000 Climax, 2 truck, unlettered, diamond struck

The only major variations are the stacks.   The diamond stack really makes the loco look very different from the straight stack version

I reviewed my records and find that the ones which sold for $400 to $750 all sold during the time the movie was in the theaters and folks just "had to have one" for their kids.

Recently one sold for $179 supposedly "new in box".     They still don't show up on Ebay very often, so it is really hard to say what one would go for today.

It is definitely a very nice set, with some collector value, but right now with the ressession and all,  Ebay prices are pretty soft so it seems a better time to buy rather than sell!
