HO / Re: HO RP25 31" wheelsets

Well I couldnt find the IHC 31" metal wheel sets for my IHC cars so I got the 33" by Bachmann. They fit BUT you have to try to bend the brake shoes on the end of the trucks out of the way. In my case they just snapped off so thats what I did. I reamed the axle pockets out with that little tool and the wheel sets fit right in and the cars glide along the track! I see alot of people giving IHC passenger cars a low rating but I think they look really nice! AND my SS set came with diaphragms on each end. I also am installing the interior kits...YES you can still find them!! You just have to search! The extra weight makes the cars stay on the track. I tried to install the IHC interior kits in Athearn cars...good luck with that!!! You would have to do alot of cutting, both length and width wise to MAKE them fit. All in all I have a nice set!

January 29, 2010, 10:51:49 AM
Heres one for you all......I have an IHC CS vista dome car and am trying to get it apart to put an interior kit in it. How in the world does that car come apart!!?? The roof doent come off like the other cars. It looks like the bottom comes off by itself and the top and windows lift off together. I can not get that car apart!! I cant see anything holding it together but the ends seem to be STUCK and it just doesnt come apart. Any ideas before I enf up breaking it?

Yes the passenger cars from IHC-Hobby used 31"  RP-25 wheelsets. I hate to cut off the brake shoe ends on the trucks just to MAKE the wheelsets fit. I guess I'll drag a car out to the local hobby shop and see how 33" wheelsets fit. At the worst, I might have to change the height of the lead car's coupler to the engine tender. Beats buying NEW truck assemblys!! Anyone finds any 31" sets, I'd appreciate a heads-up!
Thanks!

HO / HO RP25 31" wheelsets
January 07, 2010, 07:10:46 PM
Where can I purchase RP25 31" metal wheelsets? I have searched the Net and cant find any place that carries them. The only place I knew of was IHC-Hobby and they must be out of business. Their website has been down and IF you can get someone to answer the phone, they dont have anything in stock. I cant use any wheelsets larger like 33" or 36". I am putting them on IHC SS passenger cars and the larger wheelsets hit the brake shoes. Any ideas?

HO / Re: Metal wheel sets to replace plastic ones
November 19, 2009, 08:47:07 PM
  Hi all,
Yes I did find the SP Daylight cars on Ebay. Nothing on any of the cars to suggest the manufacturer. They came with plastic/metal wheel sets.
Also you have to be very careful on Ebay. I also bought a SP Daylight engine. It is by Lionel and came in a nice box. HOWEVER, when I opened the box, there was a GS4 WESTERN PACIFIC black engine in it. Not the colorful SP Daylight I bought!! Runs like junk! Broken steps. Advertised as the colorful Daylight in a matching box!  Turning that seller into Ebay.

I'll try the 36" wheel sets and see how they work out.

HO / Metal wheel sets to replace plastic ones
November 16, 2009, 06:49:59 AM
I am new to all this HO scale stuff, but I am learning. I just found what I was looking for.. Southern Pacific Daylight passenger cars. They might have plastic wheel sets on them and I want to change them over to metal. I am confused. at the IHC web site, they list RP-25 metal wheel sets for their cars, but they are out of stock and don't have a clue when they will be getting any more in. I see on EBay and at some dealer sites, that they offer RP-25,  31" and 36" wheel sets. I know I need the wheels with the needle point axle ends, but what does the 31# and the 36" mean. Which wheels do I purchase. I believe the carsthat I purchased are Athearns or IHC.

HO / Where are all the passenger cars?
November 13, 2009, 10:26:03 AM
Well I guess nobody wants to sell HO trains that bad. I have been checking all over and the selection of cars is very very slim or nonexistent. International Hobby is the worst! Rp-25 metal wheelsets are no longer carried by them. Interior kits....they don't know when they will be getting any in. And the passenger cars themselves, are on backorder with no due date in sight. Guess I should have kept my O-Scale trains!

I have been watching EBay and the are some of what I am looking for but not whole consists.

Is there any LARGE dealers that stock HUGE selections of passenger cars. I would like to get the Southern Pacific Daylight in SS or CS or even in Heavyweight. Got the engine and tender, just need the cars to go with it.

I am looking for passenger cars that already have the interiors & lighting inside. RTR cars. Any sites or manufacturers would be appreciated.

General Discussion / Large Scale buildings
September 25, 2009, 07:09:00 AM
Has anyone had any luck building large scale buildings? I am looking for buildings that you can print off a printer and then glue to a firm surface and cut out and glue together.

August 07, 2009, 09:27:30 AM
I have been looking for a sound sytem for my Big Hauler. It is a DC operated train. I have heard there is a place in St Clair Shores Michigan that sells them. Anyone know of the place? I also have been looking at MyLocoSound also. Has anyone heard any reviews about this one?

Large / Re: Track power kits for passenger cars.

Hey everyone,

A hats off to Jon Miller!! I tried his instructions for LED lights in passenger cars. I did one this weekend and it works great!! Much brighter that the stock lights that come in the cars.  Two lights work great and provide enough light. Three might be ok too, thats up to the individual.

Large / Metal handrails for G scale passenger cars.
July 19, 2009, 11:55:22 PM
I have been working on my Silverado set and am really liking it. I would like to upgrade the handrails on the passenger cars to metal ones, but cant seem to find a site that handles them. Some say they do,but once at the site there is nothing available. Any ideas?
