If you are running on DCC....try CV11=0 that always works for me for this type of response.   ::)

If it does this over a switch, then the wheels may out of correct spacing and it is shorting on the frog.

Every 6 to 10 feet does not sound like a frog shorting..................

E-Z command just begs you to connect one of the spare Bachmann DC controllers most of us have and run DC or DCC engines.

Digitrax also allows a DC engine to run on a DCC layout.

My layout is both DCC and DC. I have a rather large roster of locomotives and only about 1/3 of them are DCC.

While there are times that I will run a DC locomotive on my Digitrax DCC layout. I am very careful with the engine being run and when through running it I will take it to the yard and park it on a siding that I can shut off the power to.

If I am going to run a number of my old brass engines I disconnect my Digitrax and connect my MRC Control Master X.

Most likely I will always have a number of DC locomotives so my layout was planned to use either, have yet to harm any locomotive DC or DCC on my layout.

I really wonder if Bachmann is aware that there is a shortage at present, and has been for at least 6 months. The Spectrum Heavy 4-8-2 was one of the best running HO locomotives produced in the last  few years.

Why has Bachmann not re-released that model? While I myself do not need any additioinal Spectrum Heavy 4-8-2's as I have accumulated 4, with sound just as they were being phased out.

The Spectrum 10 Wheeler is another engine that is in sort supply, another gem that Bachmann discontinued.

Well, I see Model Power is releasing the Mantua locomotives again, their latest releases now include sound as well.

Having spent the last few days checking out the Bachmann European sites as well as the Bachmann Chinese site I can not help but wonder why there are significantly fewer locomotives being produced for the North American market than the Europeon and Asian markets.

This is very similar to what happened to Rivarossi/Hornby and also Mehano, Both of those manufacturers pared back  and concentrated on markets other than the North American market.

If HO models of the Big Boy (One Railroad) and of Challengers ( A few railroad) are being produced by a number of manufacturers why would the 4-6-4t and the 4-8-0 not be considered viable?

Not that large a leap

Is that at Field BC?

No, it is Revelstoke, Hint is the brace over the turntable, Field did not have one.

Sad, but common at the end of steam (and occasionally before, as older locomotives were replaced, 4-4-0s going away as Pacifics came in, 2-8-0s going to scrap as 2-8-4s started hauling the hotshots).

Unlettered engine looks very much like an old Bachmann Reading I-10 2-8-0; the other one is a Model Die Casting-Roundhouse 2-8-0 loosely based on a Southern Pacific prototype.  Don't know about the tender with it, though; looks like a switcher tender from Life-Like (now Walthers), but I can't imagine such a pricey tender being with this older model.  The tender with the Reading engine is still in production and shows up with some of the 0-6-0 models.

Too bad the dies broke or were otherwise damaged for the I-10; it would have been a nice engine to be upgraded to the current standard line, the die work was always quite good on it (and it kept the tradition of big Reading 2-8-0s alive in HO; the prototypes were once offered in HO by Varney and Mantua).  Unfortunately, they also had the horrible mechanisms of Bachmann at the time, including a coffee-grinding pancake motor driving through spur gears--ugh!

Yes, I thought that was the Bachmann I-10 2-8-0.  And yes it did have the Botchmann pancake motor which was dumped and the engine now free wheels.  The MDC engine's tender is just an unlettered spare P2K tender, I have more tenders than engines as I tend to have various tenders behind the same class of engine depending on their assignments, just as the prototype did.

My Spectrum 2-8-0 fleet has the stock Spectrum tender behind a couple of engines for regular freight service, two have the Spectrum tender shortened by four scale feet for use on a branch line with a short turntable and at least one has a P2K switcher tender, as shown behind the MDC 2-8-0 in the photos, for use in mainline way freight service.

The tender in the photo is scheduled to be reassigned to yet another Spectrum 2-8-0 for main line way freight service, as soon as I can get around to it.

Funny thing, I am just packing up my Bachmann I-10 for a one way trip to the Bachmann service department. The engine must by at least 35 years old. It runs pretty erratic, stalls a lot as well as jerking.

Thought what the heck, As Bachmann has a lifetime warranty, we will see what the Service Dept. offers as a replacement.

You dismiss the Mantua/Tyco too easily,

http://loggingmallets.railfan.net/models/mantua/mantua.htm

I have mainly HOn3 brass logging engines on my layout now, but some years ago I used a few of the Mantua, Bachmann Shay and Rivarossi Heislers.

Note, the 2-6-6-2 in both the tender and tank version made by Mantua have been updated and re-released a few times now by Model Power.

The new versions have quite acceptable running characteristics.

I have both versions of the new re-released locomotives and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Also, note that there were a number of different versions of the 2-6-6-2,s tender and tank versions made by Mantua, the later editions were significantly  improved over the earlier open frame versions.

I agree, it would not make sense for Bachmann to re-tool to release an HO version now that Mode Power has released their version of the 2-6-6-2's. The newest release now has sound, pity it is MRC, but sound never the less

I would like to add the Forney locomotive to the HO wanted list as well.

The Forney was both a standard gauge and a narrow gauge locomotive.

Once in a while an HO Forney shows up on the Brass section of -bay, and most times a bidding war starts. The HO version sells for more, usually, than the narrow gauge version.

There is a market for an HO standard qauge Forney locomotive.

HO / Re: Fixing a Doodlebug with cracked gear
May 02, 2013, 02:41:23 PM
I say the posting and am also interested.

I had a few of the first release doodlebugs which were prone to gear failure as I found out. Two of the three doodlebugs were sent to Bachmann for repair/replacement. There were no parts available at that time and I was given substitute replacements.

My question is the first release doodlebug mechanically the same as the later edition that was released with the passenger car?

I also noticed that the HO section on this site dealing with the diagrams does not have either of the Doodlebugs listed, there is a listing for the n scale doodlebug, just no the HO.

There is a parts diagram for all of the Bachmann engines on this site. There is also a parts department section also on this site where you can check out the ten wheeler tender.

Pacific Northern;
To even the more uninitiated, brass is known first for its quality and second for its price; however, I have seen a pretty broad spectrum of price, and also have seen plastic tenders that would do justice to brass.  E-bay is a pretty good place to look to find what you might need.  Perhaps you should do your homework before making commentary
..Havea nice day.
Rich C.

If you read the OP the engine to be paired is a old Mantua 0-6-0. Not exactly the engine you would pair up with a brass tender. I looked on E-Bay as well and the prices between the brass and the plastic is extreme.
You should try to comprehend before you speak on any thing, otherwise you may not make sense.
