Large / K-27 Tenders
June 21, 2010, 08:50:28 PM
Anyone have or know where I can get a #453 tender shell. Bachmann has none of these in stock. They have lots of the other road numbers. Just not the one I want.
Thanks in advance.......Doug

Large / Steam chuff

Just added a reed switch and two magnits to the tender wheels of the 1st of (2) K-27's. It sounds amazing and it is almost 1/4 ered perfectly to the drivers. It GREAT. Wait until I double head them with the echo in my back yard. It's to much.

Large / Drop in decoders and boards.
June 11, 2010, 07:17:07 PM
Air Wire by CVP Products for the Bachmann K-27.
They make drop ins for the SD 70 Mac, GP 7/9, F3A &F3B and the GP38-2. and at reasonable prices I think. Check them out at www.cvpusa.com
Which leads me to this, which I just found out today from CVP. They are in the process of making a drop in which works with the the Air Wire Decoder, which allows the Phoenix Sound System or sound system of your choice and battery power of your choice to hookups to there board. That sounds like an easy fix for the remote control for the K-27 and if the boards are the same for the 2-6-6-2 Logging Engine and the Forney, they have a gold mine on there hands for Bachmann. I personally do not know if the main boards are the same.
As to when it would be released, I couldn't get them to say when. Because if it's not ready by an announced release date, some people get upset and then bug them. And then there's always the people adding there 2 cents worth which usually make us all fell worse. Which doesn't help the product to be released any faster as the Bach Man and coworkers can relate to. Example... What's the next big steam engine to be released ?  It's still called anticipation, which I hate and I still think, sucks big time, but. So when it's out, it's out. As for me, Yesterday wouldn't have been soon enough.
So I hope this gives you something to look forward to, like me.
I haven't tried other decoders products in Bachmann products and I am sure they all work great too, but Air Wire is what I like, for now. I didn't mention other Remote Control Companies, because I would forget some one, this way I forget no one, and slit no one.. Just thinking out loud with my outside voice.
Happy Railroading

Glad to hear you contacted Bachmann and got a replacement tender shell. No cab ? or is that repairable, or where you lucky enough not to have sprayed it. Anyway you learned a almost real expensive lesson the cheap way. Good for you.

Large / Re: is another big engine coming soon?
June 03, 2010, 07:22:17 PM
My thoughts on another G scale, Narrow Gauge engine coming soon, are as followes.
Why would Bachmann spend thousands upon thousands of dollars tooling, duplicating engine all ready out there. The C-16 by Aristocraft, C19 & K28 by Accucraft and Logging engines are almost complete too. The Shay, Climax, and Heistler, and some with auxiliary tenders , and in different tonnages too.
The Forney is great too. Many road names no even done by Bachmann, can still be done.
To think that Bachmann, has not even finished with changes they can make to there K-27 line
Like different cabs, tenders, and paint schemes. Example.... # 453 with a green boiler, an other engines tender like #456, larger head lights front and rear and even different types of snow plows. Some cabs like # 455 in 1951 only had the rear window on both sides, the front one removed and filled in.
My guess is we will just have to wait for the next big Train Show or Convention to see what the Bachmann crew has to supprise for Us.
Anticipation is wonderfull, but on the other hand it sucks big time. What ever it is, I know it will be as good or even better than what they have produced already. They my raise the bar again. we can only hope so.
God, Listen to me, you would almost think I worked for Bachmann, I don't, wish I did. Did I say that with my outside voice ?
Love there Narrow Gauge stuff.

Why not contact Bachmann Service Department or Parts Department and find out if they sell the tender shell and cab for you engine paint scheme. They sell parts for most of there products they sell, you my get lucky and if push comes to shove, go on E-Bay. Find a new or used engine and tender. Swap the parts need and paint it.
Use only paints, clear, gloss, and dull coats made for plastic models. And above all else, not matter what anyone tells you. TEST it first on the inside of your model.  That's to see if it's compatible with the paint. In your case you have a shell to test on the inside with. I fell your Pain, but you will never do it again.
By the way the picture you took, the paint job looks like your railroad paint shop just painted over the rust without sand blasting it first.

Large / Re: Battery Power....Revolution ?

Now that's what I'm talking about and have been meaning to say for so long.  Maybe now someone can give the answer we long for. A simple way to install with step by step, and maybe pictures too of the revolution into the K-27.
Thank's  Bob C.

Large / Detailing Locomotives and Rolling Stock
May 20, 2010, 08:09:25 PM
I still can't figure out why garden railroaders go to so much detail on there scenery and land scapping and forget about there motive power and rolling stock. For me this is the most enjoyable part of the hobby next to running trains, especially Stream. I model the D&RGW and The Grand Trunk Western. It's great fun!

I use Air Wire and I have not been disappointed, They are always improving and are adding new boards to interact with there decoders to work in many manufactures engines and work well with Phoenix Sound Systems.  They also have excellent repair and support services.
As for loco-link.....I don't know much about it, other than one of my local g-gauge dealers who use to sell it, has removed it from his store.

Large / Battery power controllers
May 01, 2010, 05:31:16 PM
I have successfully installed the Air Wire System into a Bachmann K-27......works great. I have heard so many good things about the Aristo-craft Revolution, I am thinking for trying an install of the revolution into a Bachmann K-27. Along with Phoenix Sound System
Has anyone done this yet to a K-27?
If so what, did you do to install it?
Anything extra needed to install this system?
Any tips on installation?
Any wiring Diagrams you would care to share?
Any and all feed back would be great fully received
Thanks in advance for all responds.

Large / WARNING Parts falling off side rod...K-27
March 26, 2010, 11:23:20 PM
Can't get a picture on this site to show you where the pin slips out of the lower part of the combination lever. I just noticed it on my K-27 before it came completely out. If you lose it on your railroad, you will have lost it for good. I would show you on a picture I have, but I cant get the New Topic browser to let me add it. Maybe someone can tell me step by step how to add one picture. A picture is worth a thousand words.
