I guess I will eventually find out about any problems with the 3 truck climax, hopefully , mine will be leaving the States today.

I also bought the replacement gears and shafts for the 2 truck climax awhile back, and these were fitted with no problems and the loco runs fine.

Fred

Where did you buy the gears and shafts for the 2 truck climax from Dave at NWSL, He had re powered a loco for me and I had asked him about the gears for the climax and he told me he was not making them.

OK, Thanks Robert. This gives me food for thought. I will have to wait and get the chassis then decide what the best recourse is.
Thanks again

Thanks Robert, that was a big help, I really appreciate it. One more question, I am not running DCC only DC, does the engine need power from the tender or will the engine run with out it. It's no big deal to power the trucks for a p/u but I was just curious.

I have a older UP 4-8-4 and as some of you know the pancake motor was re powered with a can motor. I really would like to keep the shell and replace the Chassis w/Motor (Niagara). Does anyone know if my old UP shell would fit the new chassis. Looking at the pic it appears it would but I really not looking to buy it unless I was sure. This of course is a Bachmann loco.

i have a defective Solenoid for a switch turnout and i was wondering if i could get a new solenoid for the switch instead of buying a whole new turnout?

Yes you can. Can find therm on line or your local hobby shop.

The engine had no decoder in it just the dummy plugs. This is a can motor so you can't see anything only the binding in the motor when you spin the shaft. Been checking on ebay and everywhere else and anyone who has one is holding on to them waiting for gear replacement. I talked to Dave at NWSL and gave him the specs on the motor but another problem is taking off the worm gear and flywheel, He would have to make a tool for that, thing is really small this is why I am looking for a replacement with flywheel and gear in place. Can motors have there plus sides but the open frame motor is much easier you work with.

Yes the motor is shot. I bought this from someone claiming it was new but when I received it only the lights came on and would not run so I proceeded to take it apart and check out the motor, well!! when I turned the worm gear I felt something sticking in the motor my guess the brushes are toast. my guess someone tried this on DCC and killed the motor.
