This service which ran from NY to Miami started in 1925. Does anyone know what engine would have been used when the service started? Also, does anyone know the color scheme of the early coaches?

I had posted a question a while back on this topic, but it got sidetracked. I am building an HO layout for a youngster (6yo). I have avoided using DCC to keep the costs and complexity down. I have done some research, and I'm looking for your expert opinions. Here are what appear to be my current options...

1) MRC Symphony 77 or 312 . Pros : lots of sounds, easy to use and hook up. No additional costs to layout besides the unit. Cons : No synchronized sound, no "from train" sound.

2) MRC Soundstation 210. Pros : Adds voltage based synchro sound. "from train" sound. Cons : Discontinued. Sound will probably go into 1 boxcar and 1 passenger car which would need to be on the active train.

3) MRC Soundgenerator 8000 . Pros voltage based synchro sound. Cons : Discontinued, limited sound.

4) MRC Sound Box. Can't find much info. Steam or Diesel sound module gets added to engine (i think). Does it only work with DCC ready engines?

At this point, I am leaning toward the MRC Symphony. I only have 1 dcc ready engine (out of a total of 4 engines). Can anyone provide feedback on these choices, or provide other options ( like a boxcar with built in sound etc).

If you live near an Ikea store, check out their catalog. I just put together a Desk for my wife that came with legs that can be attached with 4 screws. They also have a leveling foot on them. I'm pretty sure you can purchase them without the desk top.

I am personally building a 4x8 layout with the "Senior Twice Around" plans for my 5 y.o. son. It would probably work a little better on a 5x8 or 5x9 table to give  a little more room at the edges. I'd say under $100. Do you know the model number on the MRC? If the bach-mann is reading... can I buy the dcc sound module for this train as an upgrade part?

I've been working on a 4x8 layout for my son. I just picked up a new 2-10-0 decapod on ebay for $49. I've read a few threads here on this engine, but I still have a few questions :

1) How well will this engine handle 18" curves ?
2) How common is the "short circuit" problem ?
3) I am running DC, and I'm wondering if there is a cheap dc compatible sound board for this engine.
4) Can anyone share there procedures for lube and break in.
