Thomas & Friends / Re: Bachmann Sir Handel thread

Quote from: Zorran202 on December 03, 2025, 01:41:50 PMANYWAYS before we end up derailing from the topic here: I could be living under a rock, but if Sir Handel is now released, where could I find him in person instead of online? Like is he distributed throughout the physical model hobby shops too?

I'm unsure about any shops directly but I know he was at the Greenberg train show, so any U.S. Local shop very well me be getting him in shortly. U.K should be getting him similarly within a week or two.

Hope this is helpful

It's nice to see Sir Handel out now, he looks stunning one of the all time greats.

Although given the 2026 initial release window he had I am a little surprised.

The only other products with a 2025 release window were the anniversary vans and they are currently nowhere to be seen, I wonder what's going on there.

Quote from: Zorran202 on September 06, 2025, 05:06:09 PMI'm honestly surprised they hadn't released the BR Brake Van by this point, like for the other range scales had been 3-4 years after their range's debut year (HO 3 years after it launched & Large Scale 4 years after it launched)... I'm honestly not sure why they opted to do the LMS version instead of what's been in the other ranges after all these years. Heck, they can do a double whammy and do a generic version (maybe like the 12 Ton Van from the HO Range, release 4 total versions) plus a Spiteful Break Van version....!

I imagine it was as simple as they though reusing the graham farish tooling would be easier than creating a new tooling or downscaling the HO one. Gives fans what they want (a normal brakevan) while also being a relatively low stakes project while they worked on 3 new engines and the express coaches. However, once they realized that wouldn't be the case they cancelled the LMS one. If it's going to be a difficult project either way no real sense to pursue it at the moment

Agreed with Chaz. The BR Brakevan is simply iconic. I imagine they'll lead with Spiteful Brakevan just due to sales but there's no real reason they can't go all out and do more down the road.

In a similar vein if they revisit doing a new tool of the LMS one like they alluded to potentially doing they'll lead with Bradford as it's the actual character. Shame to see this one be cancelled by to be honest it's already an existing product anyway. If people want one they can still get the base tooling, so it's not as much of a loss as other potential cancellations

I'd personally like to see it, it's enough of a major revision like Red Rosie to warrant being a separate product for those who prefer her having a number. But Chaz is right in it not being a really requested product. It is a good thing for Bachmann to consider in their back pocket for years where they may need something simple while they catch up on bigger products, but it does not appear 2026 will be that kind of year really so I wouldn't expect it so soon. In a similar vein it'd be nice to get an updated Henrietta with her face, as an update or separate product. It's probably my most wanted rolling stock at this point as it feels like the biggest thing missing.

As of a few hours ago Mainland Diesel, Sidney, the anniversary vans, troublesome truck #7, and N scale Henry have gone up for preorder on Trainworld. I want to say they all already had pricing info on Bachmann's webstore so I imagine some of the other things that went up on here recently (mainly N scale stuff now) will go up for preorder shortly. My hope is that all this pricing already being finalized means we'll have a pretty quick turnaround for a lot of them to drop in Q2 and Q3 next year. Maybe that's a bit optimistic but that'd be nice.

Quote from: Awesometrain77 on August 19, 2025, 10:46:32 PMSo it seems like
Sir Handel could be fall 2025
DCC items , NG gondolas, and 80th vans winter 2025
And then like knapford , salty ,n scale express coaches , and the gunpowder vans in spring 2026

A few things here. Matt said the next items that would be on the horizon after Sir Handel are the gondolas and Knapford. With that in mind I don't think we can say with confidence anything else will be released in Winter if even those he says they're shooting for next may be pushed back to 2026.

I also wouldn't expect to see Salty that soon. Per pretty recent they're still hard at work on him and even once they get the issue fixed, they still have to wait on box samples. Fall 2026 for him is more realistic I'd think. The open carriage has also had an unpainted sample longer than the gunpowder wagons and soon to be the express coaches though, so I'd expect to see that in Spring. the aforementioned two I'd also admittedly expect to be a bit later than Spring but if they can get it sped along even faster that'd be good to see

Didn't get a chance to read it earlier Chaz but I must say in agreement with almost everything you proposed. The engine picks are all sound, and so are the rolling stock. In agreement with some of the other shouts people have made regarding additions to the list like the museum coaches.

The only thing I disagree with is the normal brakevan. I'm just unsure Bachmann would lead with another faceless one out of the gate after the LMS one, especially considering neither the HO or G ones are on the market. Makes more sense to me from a business perspective that they would lead with Spiteful. But a normal BR one would be welcome, and I think voicing that interest now is definitely the right call. One in which I support.

Tidmouth sheds is also an interesting case. I know they've said the roundhouse would differ in some ways from tidmouth, but have never shot down reusing it. Has there been any product updates on said roundhouse now that I think about it? Feels like we haven't heard anything since 2024's NMRA. Don't necessarily disagree with the possibility just unsure of if I'd be fully confident in it until we see it.

I want to add one more potential character I think would happen either alongside Cranky or soon after. Bertie makes sense to me to happen to test how non-rail vehicles do in the line. I know you mention Cranky filling that role, but Cranky is kind of a different beast entirely. So it makes sense to me they'd either do both together or one soon after the other to get a wider test. Bertie serving as a test for smaller vehicles, while Cranky serves more as a test for additional accessories and buildings.

Let me know what you all think

Quote from: JLK2707 on August 01, 2025, 05:19:44 AMCould Troublesome Truck 8 be a TAR Tanker Wagon, while Troublesome Truck 9 is just a Season 1 Troublesome Truck? Could it be possible for Troublesome Trucks 1 and 2 to get new faces?

On the topic of tankers the cream tanker is a product I am shocked they did not rerelease yet with the correct coloring this time . I assume the wrong coloring was why they  retired it. But I would love to see them, make the cream tanker with the weathered chassis.

Admittedly unsure what you are referring to. The logo and color match it's CGI series off white specifications. There's nothing incorrect about it that I can see. The nitrogen lighting makes it slightly yellower then the off white cream it is traditionally but the tanker as far as I can tell replicates the colors accurately

Quote from: GordonPacific04 on July 24, 2025, 06:05:32 PMSo something I would really like to advocate for is having straight lining for the corridor tenders like in real life.

For some odd reason the lining on the CGI render of Scotsman has indented lining as if it were for a fowler tender (like Gordon's), which weirdly enough was a problem that started with the Ertl and Hornby Thomas models so I don't know why that was. Bottom line is I would vastly prefer straight lining on the corridor tenders.

This is something I probably wouldn't even be mentioning, however the newly released 2025 motorized Flying Scotsman actually corrected the lining to be straight, so if it's possible there, I'd like to see it on the Bachmann model.

Interestingly this toy originally had the old lining and then they changed it. There are a few other changes to be more accurate as well. The steam pipe and handrails are now colored instead of the dark green from the CGI model (albeit swapped colors the wrong way around, the pipe has the handrail colors). Will be curious if any of these updates carry over here or just were for this toy.

It should be noted that the promo used in the catalog actually likely predates TGR's release. A bunch of recent style guides leaked on twitter recently, included are a bunch of early promos for TGR. In a very similar style to the scotsman. Scotsman isn't included unfortunately but can be concluded he originally had a smaller face before it got sized up.

Been away for a bit as I was at the Awdry Event. The announcements actually dropped as I was on the return journey on #1 herself. (albeit dressed up as Albert)

And what amazing announcements to see in person with my friends. I never would have guessed Scotsman but he's such a natural addition. Popular real engine and a character who's existed in every era by some technicality, including AEG. The perfect anniversary candidate. Will be curious to see how he's designed and packaged. Cost has been a huge discussion point online as well. Admittedly I think the most he'll be is $300 and that's a high ball estimate and wouldn't be terrible for an engine of his size. But we'll see if I'm right on that front or he ends up more. So excited for this one.

Knapford is also an amazing comeback and I love the design of the new platform. Think making it single platform is optimal for cost and expansion as well. Allows it to be cheaper and not stick people with more platforms than they'd want. I hope these come with the number signs that the old kit did so you can extend it out to platform 10. Looking forward to this surprisingly more than Scotsman. Will love to expand my knapford.

In terms of listings everything up to 2025 has a page now except N Scale Henry (probably earlier development than the other 4), Salty (development stalled, they are hoping to have him done by next year but might not be ready to recommit having a page on this website), Gunpowder wagons (development is far along apparently but might be waiting until the gondolas are out to drop the page), N scale Brakeven (nothing has been said on this front since announcement), and G scale LBSC Thomas. I think it's good sign everything else is account for, hoping this means they're confident in all these products dropping sometime next year

Going to make a post recapping last New Model Monday again cause there was a shocking amount of Thomas News within it.

N Scale: Henry, Diesel, Paxton, LBSC Thomas, and Origins James are all in the design phase. They are hoping to be done by 2026. They didn't want to announce anything new at NMRA to add to this backlog just yet, they have ideas they are hoping will be able to announce in 2026.

G Scale: They are waiting for the right time to expand this lineup, given the skipped product codes I wouldn't be shocked if they considered it for this year, but the state of the world gave them pause. I could be wrong on that, but it's further proof they do have plans and are just waiting out the ideal time to drop.

Stanley: Is on the water, should be shipped out and released in about a month give or take.

Salty: Hoping to be done by 2026, they are still working on him as hard as they can.

Bulgy and Gunpowder Wagons: Same case as the N scale guys, in the design phase, hoping to be release by 2026.

Sir Hayden: Not Thomas but felt wrong not to include. Waiting on painted samples, hoping to release early 2026.

Open Carriage: Same as above

Thomas Anniversary Set: Repeated some of the things they said last Thomas Tuesday. Said they weren't opposed to maybe going back and doing this set at a later date, but not right now. A similar set might be announced in 2026 to fill the spot, but it won't be this. (Nor do I think that'd be required given this was always meant to be a single run item.) They also said they want to look into doing more retro items like it, most likely more rolling stock like the China Clay Wagon as they have implied that before.

NMRA Announcement: Repeated the announcement is for HO Scale, and implied there is only one but there is in fact a weird use of plural world sometimes. Could just be talking in general of the catalog, could be including British narrow gauge stuff, I could be overanalyzing it (Most likely outcome). Either way, they said the announcement would be "Unexpected" and "excite fans of most eras of tv Thomas"

Which is telling, but also vague enough to encourage tons of speculation. Only thing I think for sure is it isn't Trevor, BoCo, Scotsman, or Stepney. Use of tv Thomas rather than Thomas as a whole feel like it'd exclude the RWS, it's not like they are unaware of it after all.

I believe that is everything, hopefully cataloging this info here is useful

Norman is a decent shout actually. Cause they didn't say every, they said almost every era. Which is vague enough to apply to anyone if you really want to stretch it. But Norman is an interesting case. He'd be unexpected, and can be recolored into a model only. Plus niche basis appeal as well. He's not who I'm personally expecting but I could see it.

With what was said on New Model Monday this week I want to lock in my prediction for what I think the item might be.

I think it's Harvey, he fits the criteria of being something that'd excite people from most eras and feels the most unexpected pull they could make. It could turn out to be anything really, but I have a weird gut feeling for him.

If it turns out there is more and there is also a rolling stock announcement alongside it, I could see it being the works unit coach. Fits pretty nicely alongside Harvey and has been a request for a long time. Multiple different liveries they can announce at once/or stagger too in theory. Thinking about it could also see this being the singular item in general and that's why they're being weird with the phrasing in some instances. I'm just unsure they'd tease it the way they are if it wasn't a Locomotive admittedly.

Announcements will be made on the 19th so time will tell, but this is what I'm personally expecting at this point
