HO / New to DCC and model trains
August 27, 2025, 06:02:48 PM
Hello, I am getting back into model trains for the first time since I was a kid decades ago and so much has changed.

I've got my track layout all setup with HO E-Z Track and now I'm ready to power it, but I'm not exactly sure what I need.

From what I've learned, I think that DCC is the way to go.

I have 2 independent track layouts that do not cross or connect to each other.  Can I use one E-Z Command Plus DCC Controller to control the trains on both tracks?

If so, is that all I need besides the locomotives and the trains themselves?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Len, thanks for the advice.  Eventually I'd want to glue the track down, but I don't want to do that until I'm happy with my layout so I was thinking nails, but the double sided tape suggestion is a good one.  Have you done this?

My only concern is that the tape may allow the track to wobble subtly and not hold it down as firmly as a nail or glue, which could result in instability for the train, especially around turns.  You think it will be ok?

Thanks!

Hello, I'm trying to find the right nails to secure HO EZ Track.  I think I need #19 nails, but all the hardware store has are 1/2 inch long and I need longer.

I want to put foam board over top of my plywood base and I need the nails securing my EZ track to go through the foam board and into the plywood to secure the track properly.

Can anyone tell me where to find #19 nails that are at least 1 inch long or even longer?

I found #18 nails that are 30mm (1.18" long), but I'm not sure if their 1.2mm diameter is too thick?  Can anyone tell me if these are too thick to use with HO EZ Track?

Thanks!
