Just figured out that the LED was good.  It was the circuit board in the tender that was not making connection.  Wiring the headlight directly to the Tsunami (using a 680 ohm resister in series with one lead) and it's headlight on.

HO / Re: GP7 taking off shell

Just finished installing a Tsunami TSU-AT1000 digital sound decoder in my GP7.  Taking the shell off was easy, just remove the screws from the couplers and the shell comes right off.  Most of the wiring was simple.  The circuit board is wired using retainer clips so when you take them off the wires come off.  Putting the ASU-AT1000 board in was simple using the retaining clips to hold the wires.  The headlight output is 12 volts so you need two 680 ohm resisters placed in series with the LEDs.  The speaker takes two 28 gauge wires and one of the LEDs has leads that needs to be unsolder-ed.  That is about it.  Now my GP7 has a EMD 567 motor sound and the control is better.

Basically the engine number.

I have a 51805 2-6-0 that stops at one place also.  I have cleaned the track, even ran a cleaning car behind engine but it still stops.  A small push and the engine runs fine.  My headlight goes out, indicating a loss of electricity.  I would like to hear from someone also.

I found a post on taking off a GP40 shell that says to remove the fuel tank and take out 4 screws then remove the shell.  Does anyone know in the GP7 is the same?

The 810113 speaker is oval while the speaker in the fuel tank is round.  I don't think that SoundTraxx  would recommend a oval speaker to go in a round hole.  There must be something on the chassis to hole the 810113 speaker.

HO / GP7 taking off shell

How do you remove the shell off a GP7?  SoundTraxx says that a Tsunami 828040 decoder along with a 810113 speaker is required for this engine.  Someone in another thread said that the chassis was already milled out for a speaker.  I would like to see if that is true.

Mark,
I could not send a reply thanks to a very long address.  I have a 2-6-0 and 4-6-0 also.  The 2-8-0 ran high with my Prodigy Advance, like 25 to start moving and 45 for about a 40 mph pace.  Now it starts moving at 1 and 6 for 40 mph pace.  The headlight was about half the brightness of the 2-6-0.  Can't tell you about its pulling power as I only have 11 cars to pull.

Thank you  Jonathan

I saw your article earlier but did not know if the 2-8-0 followed alone the same lines.  I'll get a 3mm led and change the old one out.

HO / 2-8-0 consolidation question
November 09, 2012, 04:16:35 PM
I have a new 2-8-0 consolidation and need to pull the shell so I can replace the headlight.  I burnt the headlight out when I switched out the DCC unit for a Tsunami TSU-1000.
