Large / Digitrax and K-27 Marker Lights
January 29, 2012, 03:08:31 PM
Greetings.

I finally took the plunge and moved up to DCC for my loco.  Based on a review I purchased a Digitrax Zephyr starter set and the DG 383 AR board for my K-27 and so far everything seems to work just fine with the exception of the marker lights and cab light which do not turn on.  In some ways I am surprised that things are going as well as they are as the Zephyr is a tad underpowered.   The reviewer felt the Zephyr was great for G Gauge so who was I to argue.  ;)

Since I am new at the whole DCC thing I am not sure what information I can provide that can shed some light on the marker lights problem.  The only thing I can say for sure is that the Digitrax board does not use pin 5 but looking at the schematics sheet is seems that is actually for the smoke unit and should not be involved in this case.  If it turns out that the smoke unit is not working I will address that another time.

It also looks as if the marker lights are wired to the second bus so I am guessing that it is just a mater of programming but honestly the manual is not the easiest thing I have ever tried to read.

Does any one have any idea how I can get the market lights to turn on in this set up?

Many thanks!

Large / Re: 2-8-0 Outside Frame Consolidation Question

Yes, that is the one.

I found the slip telling me to unlock the couplers and stopped looking after that.  I suppose this is what happens when I am trying to do too many things at once (eat dinner, pack the apartment for moving, keep the cats out of the boxes and everything).  ;)

Thanks for the assist.  :)

Starting up in this scale is opening up a whole lot of new things to consider...rtfm for rolling stock...exactly how much weight is the layout framework going to have to support (that was never a concern in HO or even O[and not that 027 stuff])...etc.  :)

I mis-spoke...the person at my local hobby store had used the term 1:24.

Four feet?  I expected it to take eight to ten feet!  Now I am really disappointed I picked up the 2-8-0 instead of the k27.  :(

Large / 2-8-0 Outside Frame Consolidation Question
August 19, 2008, 08:17:26 PM
Good evening.

I just recently picked up the 2-8-0 and one of the Spectrum low drop side gondolas to get my narrow gauge empire off to a flying start.  When setting the engine and the car on a section of track to test the couplers I noticed that the couple on the gondola is much higher than the one on the tender (I did not try the one on the pilot yet).  Since the engine is brand new I am not at all keen on cutting this beauty and I want to keep the Bacmann couplers I was wondering what alternatives are there to solving this problem?

Many thanks!

Large / K27 radius question
August 19, 2008, 08:13:28 PM
Good evening.

Just a quick question about the K27.  I am planning on moving from 1:29 standard gauge to 1:24 narrow gauge and am interested in the K27 but have not been able to find an answer to one question.  What is the radius for this beast?

Many thanks!  :)
