Thanks so much for the info!!! While I was waiting for a reply I kept researching and found that maybe some light grit sand paper to clean the top rail would help so I did this also I found that the power supply was not connecting with the track well so I bent the connectors better and Voila we have a very well working train and my daughter is a very happy first time train owner  ;D. There is a section of track that is bent so the cars keep derailing so we will have to get new track.

Large / Help never owned a train before

Hi, on a trip to our local second hand store today my daughter fell in love with a large train with parts and peices a plenty in a large cardboard box. They lady said it worked and she wanted only $4.00 bucks for it so I bought it brought it home and put it all together. It went for one very stuttery trip around the track and stopped now it wont go at all. I started researching and found it is a Bachmann Large Scale Denver and Rio Grande Anniversary edition engine, coal car, box car, and beautiful caboose. We have 10 peices of curved track and 2  peices of straight track. And a very simple power thing that you slide under the track and it has 0-100 speed forward and reverse. The track metal is very rusted could this be why the train went a little and then stopped. Since it seems that we happened upon a VERY GOOD DEAL in this train I would like to replace the track and power thing if people think that would solve our issue. But honestly any advice on buying track, power packs and care for this train would be much appreciated. Is G scale the same as large scale? Can I buy g scale track for this train?
