N / reguaging steel wheelsets
March 03, 2010, 06:50:49 PM
Hi all, I need some advice on reguaging pilot truck wheels on steel axles.  Are they pressed on or how are they made?  I need to widen them about 1/64 of an inch and I would like some insight into this before I really mess something up!  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for any info.   Jerry

N / traction tires for bachmann steam
March 08, 2008, 05:24:53 PM
My class J threw a tire, and I cant  seem to find anything to fit it, I've tried the calumet tires, (didn't work), then I tried the stewart tires for diesels, thinking by stretching then further they might fit the groove better, but they all seem to protrude to far out of the groove, raising the rest of the drivers far enough to cause it to derail.  Anybody know where to get tires to fit bachmann steam? Mr. bachmann? Or any body else? Would appreciate it very much.

Thanks, brokemoto, it's good to hear a positive response.  Does anyone know what the average turnaround time is for locomotives that are sent in for repairs?

Thank you for your input skagitcom, I've been wondreing about bachmann's service, and how they handle replacements if they deem it necessary.  I'm in the ag segment of the population, and the corn fields have been calling, so the "J" has been on hold for a while.  I plan to get back on it soon and try the super glue approach.  Any other suggestions will be appreaciated.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll give the super glue a try,the wheel comes out far enough to get at the axle , so I'll be able to get a small drop of glue on it.
By the way this an older locomotive, the box # is 51-0658-A4.
I'm also wondering if the wheel sets listed in the paperwork with engine are still available if all else fails.  Thanks again,

I have a bachmann class J that the right front driver has come loose on.  Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get to stay tight on the axle?

I'm wondering about putting traction tires on this engine.  Are the side rods attached to all of the drivers?  And would Ihave to machine a groove for the tire?

Thank you for you're reply. I have a lot of 9 3/4 curves on my layout, and my 4-8-4 handles them fairly well. (Some of the 2-6-6-2's are getting fairly cheap and I'm tempted to try one although they have a reputatin for not pulling to well.) Any other information on these locomotives would be appreciated.  Thanks again.

What is the minimum curve radius for the spectrum 2-6-6-2?
