What Bachmann n scale engines are compatible with the  Item # 89554 tender?

My issue is of the screw hold down type. Haven't tried re-threading. Did try a longer screw but it bottomed out on the motor frame. On some of the engines it looks like someone tried a new motor and it didn't quite fit. I can seat the worm but as soon as power is applied the worm kicks out of engagement.

I would guess the prototype would be the 0-6-0.

The locos are al standard line.

I have a number of older Bachmann locomotives with the same problem. The motor worm gear will not stay engaged to the drive gear on the frame. I have tried shims but the hold down  on the motor doesn't seem to cope with the force needed to hold the worm engaged. Has anyone solved the problem in a satisfactory manner?

The funny thing is that I have the problem even with the original motor on the frame. The chassis doesn't appear to be bent. I wonder if, in addition to changing the frame,  they changed some of the motor dimensions slightly.

That's what I expected that I would have to do. I wonder if anyone n this foru has the piece and would measure its length? That would give a good start.

Try any hobby shop that caters to fuel powered R/C airplanes. Ask for the medium size silicone fuel tubing.
It will be either blue or pink in color. It is quite flexible.

Not sure your process for getting the length length will work. I have an excess of 18 inches sticking out from the tender. If I hook up the engine I am not sure if I will be have the room to fit the tubing. However, I haven't given it a shot as yet.

As a quick check I used a piece of silicone fuel tubing. The size I had fit onto the motor shaft in the tender and I was able to turn the motor using the tubing. Need to figure out just how long the piece of tubing needs to be in order to fit on the worm shaft in the engine and to allow enough length for me to get the tubing on the engine worm shaft when the tender is hooked onto the engine.

BTW, the tubing I used is the blue silicone tubing not the clear tubing.

Thanks for the reply. There are no bearings for the worm on the 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 engines I am working on. The worm is on the motor shaft.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think the gears are worn. The problem is that the worm is too far above the gear
when the motor is installed. I know I could possibly shim up the rear edge of the motor to get engagement but I shouldn't have to do that. BTW, in some cases the worm clears the gear by 1/16 inch or more.

Was at a train show last weekend. Unfortunately for me it was 99% HO and up. However, I talked to one of the two n gage people there and he suggested that I give model airplane fuel line tubing a try. Haven't tried it yet but it might work. Some of that tubing is pretty stiff in short lengths. The problem would be to get it to fit over the hex nuts without the tubing wall thickness causing a jam inside either the engine or the tender.

If, as I stated, I enjoy trying to repair older n gage engines, why would it be better to toss them and buy new ones?

I enjoy trying to get older n gage locomotives running again. I have a problem. I have about a half dozen Bachmann locomotives that are complete and have good motors in them but they won't run because the worm gear on the motor won't engage the spur gear that drives the wheels. This is true on engines that are clamped down between clips and also on engines that are held down via screws into a threaded hole on the bottom of the motor. Does anyone know hoe to fix this problem? 2 of the engines are 0-6-0 diesel dock siders. 4 are 0-4-0 steam engine switchers.  The motors appear to be bedded down on their support pan. Thanks for any help you can provide.
