HO / Re: Scenery budget

That's going to depend on your Scenery itself... How detailed do you want your Scenery.... For example my Layout is 17ft long x 6 feet wide

I have fully weathered buildings & shanty's / Yard tower / Passenger Station....
My track rail's are fully weathered / With ballest / on both main lines & yard area...
I have mountains scene with a cut through for my mainline with Rock's abutting out & even my rocks are weathered...
& don't forget the Trees I have about 60 thoughout my hole layout

I am guessing hear but on my layout I bet I have between $1500 - $2000 in scenery alone & I am not including the animals / people cars & trucks

Hello to all

I tried the cv settings as suggested and it seems to be the same , the horn volume to low, I will check the speaker wiring next.

thanks

I still say it's the way the speakers are mounted to the shell... I would Dremel out a few bigger openings... & you will notice a big difference.... I did it to 2 of my Bachmann Engines & there pretty loud now & I did not Change sound CV's either

. . . Some sound Decoders are non-adjustable... For example I have an Engine I will not say Brand or make of decoder it came through with pre-programmed sounds 28 of them to be exact.. I put the engine on my program track on my layout & I can read the decoder it will read back the brand decoder type ECT but I can not change any of the CV values... Some decoder company's will not allow you change CV's or just 1-2 CV's like the Bell sound & main Volume...
. . .

A SoundTraxx Bachmann OEM Sound Value type decoder is installed in the Bachmann HO DD40AX.  Nothing in the quote is relevant to that decoder.

That's WHY I said SOME Decoders DONT allow you to chance the CV's....

I don't think it has any thing to do with your Engine or Sounds...

It could be how the speaker is mounted inside the shell too...check to see if there are Openings large enough to allow the sound to come out you might need to dremel out bigger openings... I had to do this to one of my DCC sound value Bachmann's UP GP-38-2 #2024 Engine to get the Sound to come out better All's I had to do is dremel out a bigger opening by the Rad Fan on top & I Demel two on both sides of the shell & put a screen there & re-weathered the shell issue fixed lol

Brian,

Will your Acela consist fly off your curves with your DC power-pack?

If so, consider reducing your motor voltages with diode bridges and/or diodes as shown here:

http://www.dallee.com/PDFs/MotorDiodeDrop.pdf

This would cause you to run higher voltages on the track, therefore have brighter lights.

The 4 single black diodes in the diagram are wired in a bridge configuration, which can be replaced by a diode bridge.

The stall current of the motor at 12V is 1.1 amps.

You could probably get away with 1 amp diodes or bridges,

as the motor voltage has been reduced, so will its stall current.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

I Run DCC not DC on my layout I have....I have a 5 AMP system powering my layout & should have more than enough power to run lights on my passenger cars.

Real passenger trains don't glow brightly at night.
Yes I know this but I just think the stock lighting is too Dim for my liking.... But I don't have a lot of options...

Thanks for the reply's... I run my Acela in DCC on my layout that might be the cause why my lighting is so Dim its running DC mode... How would I switch it to DCC... & could I add dia-frames to the ones that are already there....

I have a Acela passenger train set... Although I like the Train set itself there are a few things I am disappointed on & would like some thoughts on how to make the car's better...

#1. Interior lighting is POOR I do not like the inside lighting that came stock with the car's... "every time I have the train running during a session with my friends I am asked if the Passenger Car's even have lighting in them"... Is there better LEDS I can get & where to get them...

#2. how can I obtain better Passenger Car dia-frames for in between the Car's The Factory dia-frames do not look realistic to me & have gap's where can I get better one's... I seen on Trainworld.com Dia-frames are offered but I don't know witch car's I have they have listed Bud cars / Pullman 85 CMF what type is the Acela Car's....
Thanks for any help in this matter..... TMB

My first thoughts are for your SLOW movement of the Loco's is assuming you are running DCC since you have DCC Loco's... Is 1 you might be running in DC mode & causing your Slow movement & why the Engines are Growling... or 2 You might have a Low Voltage issue how many Engines are you running @ 1 time on your Layout... & what type of DCC system are you running I am going to assume Bachmann's EZ-DCC system...& I would suggest sending in your engines to Bachmann for repair & service

Down here in Louisiana summer is the model railroad season with 95 degree days and 110 percent humidity. Yesterday we hit 78 but we are having the last cold snap of the season now, going to get all the way down  to high 40's tonight, WHOOOOHHH!!!!!!!

**** that's nothing try anywhere from 20's - 9 degrees @ night January to Spring Time & anywhere between 25 - 43 Degrees in the day... In my Area of Eastern PA...
Summer Time 95 -102 degrees with 80-98% humidity is a daily thing in PA from Mid July to End of Sept... Needless to say the EXTREAM Thunderstorms & HI-Winds that RIP through our area on any given day when temps & Humidity is this bad... I have seen Huge Maple Trees felled like if someone pushed them over...
