I took a chance on a repair: I drilled out the socket where the wire broke off, soldered the broken wire to a straight pin from the wife's sewing supplies, inserted the pin in the drilled-out socket, and clipped off the pin head and excess pin length. It worked!

General Discussion / loco/tender wiring plug repair?
April 20, 2019, 06:59:38 PM
The wiring harness from the locomotive to the tender snagged and pulled one of the tender wires from the tender plug. Does anyone have any experience repairing that?

Thanks.

Are the decoder and sound board for the 0-6-0 the same as for the 2-6-0?

Thanks.

On30 / Re: Current Keeper for Shay
June 07, 2017, 11:51:37 PM
Thanks to all. Much appreciated. After looking at the photo, I realize that my decoder actually precedes the B2TS series. I do have the B2TS in one of my Shays. It has the plug-in pins per your picture, that plug into the Bachmann board. The decoder in my older shay is a TCS 312D48, REV AR2. It is hard-wired - no pins to plug in to the Bachmann board. Any help with that would really be appreciated.  Thanks.

Also, I have some 1 farad, 5.5 v capacitors, if that would be an easier solution?

Thanks for the reply, Red Barron. I cheecked out the forum you suggested, but it's open only to registyered members, and not accepting registrations. Any ideas?

On30 / Current Keeper for Shay
June 02, 2017, 03:59:21 PM
I have one of the earliest On30 Shays, with the original B2TSLC Soundtraxx  wired decoder. Current pickup has gotten sporadic, so I want to install a Current Keeper ("Keep-Alive") board, but Soundtraxx tech support can't provide information on the attachment points on this old decoder.

Can you?

Alternatively, is there any fix for the poor pickup?

Thanks.

On30 / Dead drivers on two On30 Forneys
September 11, 2015, 08:14:31 PM
My Forneys both pick up on the rear slider trucks, but neither does on either of the 4 main drivers. Can't see any loose or disconnected wires on the main board in the fuel bunker or the small card on the bottom under the Sound on Board cover. Have cleaned the back sides of the drivers where the contacts ride, and the contacts themselves. They worked a year ago before I moved to another state and started a new layout. Any suggestions?  Thanks.

On30 / Re: Heisler Prototype?

Thanks, Royce.  I'd think a vertical boiler is its own steam dome, right? I think that's a good possibility for the lack of a water hatch. Also makes it more of a shame that Bachmann has quit including the firewood loads they used to. Now I have to make my own and glue them over the coal. Oh, well, that's what modeling is supposed to be about anyway, I guess. At least, the real wood looks better than what Bachmann used to supply.

Thanks for the photo and detail reference, Hamish. Also, good question about water, Railtwister. I'd think with the boiler in the cab, there would be a way to vent a pop-off valve through the roof.

The Bachman model is almost a dead ringer for the A. W. Stevens Lumber #1. Other than the curvature of the running boards, and the length of the bridge pipe between the steam feeder pipes, I don't see much difference.

Thanks for your tip, Rich. I was hoping for a little more detail, though.

This model appears to have a vertical boiler inside the cab, but I haven't seen any pictures of other Heislers configured that way. That might explain why there's no steam dome, but also makes me wonder why there's no boiler vent in the cab roof. Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks.
