Hello Len,
Are you sure that this item as I earlier described is able to accept the 8 pin plug decoder? I ask because the box doesn't say dcc ready or able, perhaps it doesn't list on the outside of the box at that time? I just want to be clear that you believe that this unit will except a dcc decoder. Thanks again for all your knowledge.
Sincerely, Dan S.

Thanks All,
As all ways I appreciate your wealth of knowledge it sure helps reduce the mistakes and $ spent!! I will purchase these 2 duddle bugs with the info gained here and not be 2nd guessing myself. I saw were you listed the part# for proper decoder, this would be the correct animal for the job? Is this a Bachmann part# or whom may it belong to so I can order the proper item?  Thanks again. Dan.

Can I ask a senoir Bachmann expert if this particular duddle bug has the 8 pin feature to allow it to be changed to DCC operation? I have not purchased it yet so I'm not able to take the shell off to view personally. I have a local antique dealer whom has a couple for sale in good condition, but either of us know if we can convert to DCC easily. I thought to post this question before I purchased unit and possibly save myself some aggravation down the road.

Thanks Bach-man,
Your instructions were exact and the two pieces shell of the passenger car pulled apart just fine. I was able to get into the interior and remove the bulb assembly very simply, now the bigger question is where do I find replacement bulb assembly part # 6603??? anyone with any info on locating a couple of these bulb assemblies for Spectrum heavy weight 72' passenger cars would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the help, Dan.

Thanks again Bach-man! I will give it a shot tonight.

Thanks Bach-man,
So I would assume these pieces are also glued together? so using some finesse would be very important? Thanks Dan. Can I send back to Bachmann service center and happily pay for bulb replacement?

Thanks ACY,
But how do you get inside the passenger car to perform needed replacement, I have tried to separate the bottom from top but it seems like it is either molded together or glued? Any instructions so no damage occurs? Thanks Dan

HO / How to replace blown bulb in Spectrum passenger car?
November 10, 2014, 02:02:02 PM
Hello Bachmann Folks,
I just purchased a couple of 72' HO Spectrum heavy weight passenger cars (observation and diner car) these 2 passenger cars are in very nice condition, and purchased at a very reasonable price, or so I think! but my observation car has a blown interior light. Does anyone know how to replace this light bulb and were might I find a replacement? I would appreciate step by step instructions as I would very much hate to destroy this very nice passenger car. Thanks Dan.
PS. would the Bachmann company fix if I send back and pay reasonable repair fee?

Good morning Fellow's,
Yes, I found the problem pretty much as you stated, the metal connecting strap between the engine and tender was holding up the tenders first set of trucks just enough to be a pain on the curves, all set now, just a lttle adjustment needed! Can any of you guy's recommend the Bachmann HO Berkshire steamer or another model steamer to work on 18 and 22" radius curves? I just can't pull my set of 72' heavy weight passenger cars with the little steamer, it only can pull 2 at a time! just need a little more mussel/weight to get the job done. I only have a 5' by 10' layout and the curves really limit me to the size of engine I can use, don't want to order a new Berkshire if it will have trouble with my size of curves I'm using. Thanks again I appreciate all the experience that you guy's have in this matter. Dan.

Good morning to All,
First of all I would like to Thank all of you Gentlemen out there whom help answer all my questions in the past, you have been a huge help explaining all my problems and frustrations and save money by not buying the wrong items. I have a new DCC sound equipped small steamer which is giving me fits! When I run the little steamer and tender around my layout it runs fine, but as soon as I hook 1 or 2 cars on to it the front trucks on the little tender going around curves pulls the front wheels of the front truck off the rails! Now as soon as I use a different engine to pull same car configuration I have no issues at all, but it seems that the tender on the steamer doesn't have enough weight to hold itself down on the tracks? Have any of you ever heard of such a problem? if so how did you fix it? As allways I would very much appreciate any help from a experienced model train export. Dan.

Thanks for all the help with information which I requested. After looking into this in more detail I now see exactly what you all have been saying and I will gladly take your advise and move up to the digital world and the newer Silver Series rolling stock. I guess it really goes back to the old adage "You get what you pay for"! Thanks again Everyone.

Good morning Gent's,
Again another newbie question! Is there any web site or information site on what degree of curve track is needed for a again area or layout? My wife and I are building a double oval track for a Christmas display and would like to use the 30 degree Bachmann crossing between ovals to connect them together, (not a figure 8 layout) now I need to install 1 curve track on each outlet of crossing to get my track to run parallel/straight again. I have tried 18" radius curve track, turn to much, then tried a 22" radius curve and still to great of a curve, now I hate to just keep ordering different radius till I find the correct outcome, there must be a better way! I asked my local hobby shop and got a very generic answer, keep coming back and buying more different curves until you find what works! really in todays information age this is the answer from a hobby store, guess he likes to sell products! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dan.

Thanks Jonathan,
I understand now! the light went on in my head. I didn't know that some of the older bachmann cars had the trucks and couplers mounted as 1 piece units, but I see now that may be the case. Greatly appreciated. I also see that the older Bachmann rolling stock has plastic wheels and axles on trucks, this may be the reason why these cars sell for $1.00 each on e-bay! Thanks for saving me the pain of finding out the hard way. Happy modeling to you. Dan.

Thanks Gent's,
I just wanted to increase my rolling stock and as we all know with any hobby you can get over budget in a hurry. There are many Bachmann H/O railcars on e-bay that are of excellent condition but have the older type couplers, these cars are of the Bachmann brand name, but didn't know if I where to bid on items that I could change the couplers out to the new style knuckle couplers of today. I don't know if the coupler and truck set are together or separate as there is no mention in ad, I have not bid yet till I find the answer I'm searching for. Thanks again. If typically that the older series Bachmann rolling stock is not able to handle the new magnetic couplers of today, that info would be very appreciated. Dan.
