N / N scale coupler boxes
December 02, 2014, 10:57:20 AM
I haven't been here for a while & apologize if this was covered.  Does Bachmann make coupler boxes for the new sprung couplers?  I would like to use them on scratch built HOn3 rolling stock as well as on some N scale....thanks

N / New Knuckle couplers
May 30, 2014, 10:48:55 AM
Has anyone had any experience with the new Bachmann knuckle couplers with the springs. I recently bought a Bachmann Davenport switcher to use as the power for a Grandt line HOn3 box cab. I used the Kadee ng coupler for the front, but needed a shorter one for the back & found that the N gauge coupler on the switcher mated well with the other couplers & didn't require assembly. Does anyone know where I can purchase individual sets...seems most suppliers are selling them as sets of 12,  Don't need that many.   thanks

If Bachmann doesn't release a porter, you can always pick up a docksider. There are PLENTY of those new & used.  I'm working on a Bowser now. New motor, gearbox, flywheel, decoder, valve gear & super detailing. Also a lot of Mantua 0-4-0 T & 0-6-0 T out there that can be made great runners.   jerry

HO / Re: Braided vs Solid Wire for layout's

Hi Everyone: I was just wondering what you guy's used on your layouts.... I am @ the point where I am ready to wire-up all my industry's all my sideing tracks are in... I decided to use Solid 12-Gauge wire over the Braded wire I feel it will be easer when soldering up my track lead's to the main track wire.. What do you guy's think....
12 gauge will work but is more than overkill.  12 gauge will carry 20 amps at 120 volts...so unless you have 600 locos running at stall current it's TOO much.

Put them on a shelf in your room to remember your grandfather.

Don't know about that specific plug, but I had the same problem with my new Model power mantua classic pacific. Checked the motor  & it ran great in both directions...Turned out that the plug was plugged in one pin off. There was no key or slot & the pins are VERY small, so it was easy to plug it in wrong.

I'm quite satisfied with the sound and the price of these locomotives.  It would be nice if it had a steam release but I would'nt be willing to pay more than twenty five dollars or so to get that added.  I am hopeful that a new release of the 2-8-0 (hopefuly in Southern black)  with Sound Value And, perhaps, the 4-6-0 as well will be forthcoming in the future.  The low price has made it possible for me to buy three of these loco's, two with sound.  I am happy that Bachmann has chosen to provide an affordable alternative for those of us who can't afford to buy the higher priced full featured sound units.  Keep the faith Bachmann, I can hardly wait.

Paul   The 2-6-0 Mogul has the steam release...at least mine does.

I shared some of my frustrations about your products in the past, so I feel it only right to praise you for the 2-6-0 mogul.  It is the least expensive loco I have bought in MANY years & the first one with sound.  After minimal break-in it ran great & had great sound & can't beat the price....Congratulations.

Doesn't seem to me to matter where you bought the product. Bachmann still manufactured it along with the split gears.

In my previous post I mentioned NWSL as a supplier for Bachmann gears. I didn't mean replacement gears, I meant supplying Bachmann with the original gears. It would be a win, win, win.  Bachmann would have a reliable product & be done with the repairs & bad PR & be able to advertise their products as having NWSL gears.
We would win by buying a loco that would be virtually problem free & NWSL would win with the added business.
   Hey Mr. Bachmann...think this over!

I would rather pay more & have NWSL make the gears for Bachmann. You wouldn't have to be concerned about sending them back, paying the service charge & postage. Also you would have a dependable loco. Most of us have more motive power than we need & if we did have to pay a little more we could cut down on the size of our fleet & it really wouldn't hurt.
I will say that Bachmann does make some of the best detailed models..including brass. It would be great if they were as dependable as they look....
