Slightly out of scale to this topic I know, but possibly of interest to followers of this thread--go to roundhouse-eng.com for info on a live steam model of the Alco 2-6-2 being discussed here.

Mine is scheduled for production next month.

To S Ry, I disagree with you. Hardly a car or engine on my Belden Falls Ry is straight out of the box. In fact, many are hard to identify as to origin, and all are custom lettered. Even my live steam locos costing many $$s get the treatment. Many large scalers I know who may not go to my degree of kitbashing or scratch building do follow a theme, buying and running equipment that follows a logical plan.

I agree that any new 1:20.3 passenger cars should be different that what is out there now, and with most of the other points already mentioned.

The razor saw and styrene are ready to go---

Hi Mr. B,

Will you be at the Syracuse Train Show at the fairgrounds next weekend? A group of us will be coming over from Vermont.

Mike, regarding setting the valves, why don't you ask the question on the live steam forum at MyLargeScale.com. This is an excellent place to get help with model steaming.

Hi Mr. B,

Missed you at the ECLSTS this weekend, but I was told that you deserved some time off. Brought home some more 1;20.3 rolling stock to customize, including a Murphy-roof boxcar. After adding a metal (aluminum/styrene) roof to two of the original boxcars, I decided that buying the new version was the way to go!.

Well, some success at last. This weekend at the Cabin Fever Expo at York PA, I was able to acquire two pair of the Vulcan trucks, upgraded with Sierra Valley steel wheels.

Where there is the will, there is a way..........

Mr B, I thought Tom at MicroMark did not handle the 1:20 stuff. Are you aware of any change?

Ridge Road Station still lists the box cars and tanks. Hoppers, flats and gons seem to be gone.

Word is RRS is going out of business. Too bad, they are good folks to do business with.

Here I am again asking that the Spectrum 1:20 trucks be made available, especially the Vulcans as used on the two-bay hopper.

On30 / Re: Hand Stamps for Custom Lettering

If you give up on the rubber stamp idea, there are two vendors of custom rr lettering that are good--

Stan Cedarleaf for wet-film decals--Cedarleaf Custom Decals

Del Taporo for vinyl transfers or painting stencils--G Scale Graphics

Since I prefer the vinyl transfers, I get my custom work done by Del. However, the smallest he will do is 3/16". That's ok for my 1:20 equipment, but might not be small enough for some O scale lettering.

Many Floquil colors come in spray cans; I think pullman green is one of them. My local shops don't stock the cans, so I buy them online--go to the Testors web site.

Precision Scale (precisionscaleco.com) has them in 1/2"/1:22.5 scale. I have found many of their parts work fine for 1:20.3.

Good morning Mr. B,

Good to see you again at Syracuse last Saturday. The number for the matte finish non-yellowing Krylon clear coat that I use is: 1311.

After the modified 1:20  frameless tanker is finished, the next project will be substituting "steel" underframes for the trussrods under two of the boxcars, using Evergreen structural shapes. Gotta stay busy during the coming  long Vermont winter.

I would also like to see the new Murphy roof made available for retrofitting first-run production box cars. I'll take three, also.

Hi Mr. B,
Any chance the new Murphy roof as used on the 1:20.3 boxcars will be available for retrofitting to first production run cars?
