Large / Big Hauler Chassis Replacement
December 11, 2017, 11:34:33 AM
Which 'Annie' chassis is the best replacement for the generation chassis 4 in my Blue Comet?

Can a Walschaerts valve gear 'Annie' version be used or must it be the Stephenson version?

Often as not, we tend to complain about poor customer service, or some other issue.

Today, I want to praise Laura and all the people at Bachmann customer service and service departments.

E-mails answered promptly and personally, WOW!  In the day of the big-box-store with prizes for finding-a-clerk (who cannot answer a question anyway), knowledgeable and caring people are refreshingly different.

Laura, you are the voice-face-person who is Bachmann Trains for me  . . .  and I will stay a customer because of your approach and attitude.  Here's a hearty well done and thanx from a Large scale guy.

Congratulations for doing your job wonderfully

Sorry that it took me so long to reply.  I only have 1 Yukon unit - It's the one that you want.
If you're still interested please email me using the link at the left of this page.

Both of my Blue Comets are version 4 chassis.  Looking at them they seem to be very heavy duty . . . but the gears of one did become problematic.  Make certain that you clean and lubricate your locomotive according to the maintenance schedule.  (Take care not to use too much or the wrong lubs.)

Thanks for your responses.  I really like the idea of an auto paint store spray can.  I will check with the guys at some body shops to find a supplier.

In the mean time, I have been playing with Polly S colours and have blended a perfect match -- when the paint is wet -- way too dark after it dries.  Having a machine match the original sounds much more promising.

Thanx Again

Large / Blue Comet Passenger Car Side Color Blue

I read in another post that paint colours are mixed in China from paint chips and there may not be a commercial equivalent in North America.

I need to refinish part of a side of a Blue Comet Combine.  It was put away without my realizing that it had cola spilled on it. The cola, in time, acted  like  paint remover.

Does anyone know of a close colour match?  Alternatively, is there a combination of colors that any of you had success with?

Bridget, Bachmann Service, gives great customer service, in my experience.  I emailed her last Friday at 4:45 PM EST.  She responded, with a personalized answer, at 9:45 PM EST on Friday.  I don't know how you feel about it, but after working 5 days in the office, still working at 10PM on Friday, shows an outstanding dedication to customer satisfaction.

Encore presentation . . .
When you send an email from via the Bachmann website, sometimes it disappears into cyberspace and the service dept won't see it -- and so you won't get a response.  Use your regular email program to send your message.  It, and Bridget, works fantastic.

Thanks Joe.  Sometimes I miss the obvious - until some tells me!

Large / Re: Train shows re- Bach Man

In Ontario, Canada, I am finding it increasingly difficult to find hobby shops with Bachmann G products.  I agree that it would be a big boost to our hobby if the Bach-man could attend/exhibit at some of Canada's bigger shows.

With the impending North American launch of Thomas in G size, there's a whole new generation to fascinate with trains.  It's a marvellous opportunity to rejenerate the hobby in Canada

Large / 2-4-2 Loco 91114 Pensy Smoke
February 16, 2009, 12:22:10 PM
I read, on another thread, that this loco is less than Bachmann's Best - just after I bought one new (old stock).  I am very happy with its looks.

Before its initial test run, I tried to make sure the smoke unit was turned off.  But . . . the switch is not marked off-on.   To turn the smoke unit off -- do I move the switch toward the smoke-box-hatch hinges?

Thanks for the help!

PS - regarding the tender wheels -- this one has plastic (which I want to switch to metal)

Just to follow through.  Bingo - you were right-on.

The loco lays on my work bench with only the wires connecting all the pieces.  I have the ties - somewhere around the house -  (It's better to be looking at it than looking for it.) and I will buy some more ties tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks again Barry for giving me the confidence to tackle the problem.

Thanx Barry

I have printed your instructions (and highlighting CAREFULLY).  If tab(s) break, would you use pvc solvent to reattach them?

Thanks very much.
Took your advise and asked.
It wasn't.
