General Discussion / Re: Dynamis IR Reciever
April 09, 2015, 01:25:05 AM
Hi BL2, I just wondered how your pro box worked after adding the extra IR receiver. Mr Bachmann said to just cut off the square tab, but didn't say if it mattered which way the plug went into the IR receiver. The IR cord has 8 pins (same as an 8 pin decoder) and you have a 50% chance of getting it wrong! I have a pro box and was going to hook up the 2nd IR receiver and saw your posting on this forum. The IR extension has the notch-out to put the cable in one way only, the IR receiver should have a notch-out as well ???

Great layout Wiley, what do you think of your Proto with the LL8 in it? I've been using DH165LO, but thought about trying the LL8.

General Discussion / Re: Online Train Retails
November 27, 2007, 11:31:46 PM
I've had very good and very bad luck with wholesaletrains.com.  The shipping cost to Canada on my last order was astronomical!  I was quoted around $20.00 when I ordered, but when the items arrived they had charged me $69.88 for DHL Ground :o. I could have paid full retail at Walthers with their shipping charge and still paid less!
Live and learn I guess.

HO / Decoder install problem
April 21, 2007, 05:52:16 PM
I have a new Spectrum 2-8-0 w/DCC no sound and have purchased a Soundtraxx DSD-B280LC for it.  The only problem is the pcb position for the 8-pin plug is offset and so the new decoder won't fit in the proper place.  Would a male 8-pin with about 2" of wires and female 8-pin work, or do any of you modellers have another solution for my problem ???

Hi Jerold
I would be a buyer for one of the USRA rectangular tenders, after you have switched the boards.

Gene - I will check with Tony's.  I have already purchased the DSD-B280LC, just need a little bit bigger tender that would be close to prototype. Thanks for the reply.

HO / Re: PROTO 2000 S1 DCC conversion

Thanks John - I know the prototypes are quite similar. I'm  not sure if the one I have is the pre-DCC or not.

Does the Proto 2000 S3 have the same DCC conversion requirements as the S1? The instructions just say replace the lights, then remove the large pcb and replace with the decoder.
Does it need to have any wiring changes as well?

Hello all, I'm a newbie posting here and only been back with trains about a year so bear with me. I have the med. vandy that came with the UP 2-8-0 with dcc (#83607). It has the proper plugs and the decoder for what you are doing.  What I want to do is replace the existing decoder and install a DSD-B280LC for sound and the vandy is too small. Would a USRA long tender (#89831) work by changing the pcb and connections or would you experienced railroaders just go with the USRA medium tender (#89731)?
