HO / Front wheels on 4-8-4 keep derailing
March 11, 2013, 08:01:30 PM
Hello, I have a bachmann 4-8-4 steam locomotive that constantly derails. The front wheel set does not stay on track. If I remove the front wheel set the train works fine. Any suggestions on keeping the front wheels on track?

General Discussion / Traffic lines an parking lots.

Hello Gang,

Can you recommend a product for traffic lines and parking lot lines. I am looking for a tape-like item. My streets and parking lots are painted with latex.

Thanks

HO / 18 versus 22
April 24, 2008, 10:48:15 AM
Hello Gang,

Will a 22 curve fit on a 4x8 layout? What are the pros and cons to the 22 curves. My big steam keeps falling off the track so I am cosidering repacing my 18 with 22. How does this affect a layout overall?

Thanks for the input.

I have a brand new Spectrum DCC 2-8-0 that squeals like a pig, just like the one I returned. Is it unreasonable of me to expect the engine to operate out of the box? Both of them ran great for 5 minutes.

Is it expected that I should know how to fix this problem? I don't mind working on an old piece, but a new one?

I have been out of the hobby for a while and recently returned to it with my son. Should I spend my money on another brand?

Thanks

I have sent one 2-8-0 back and just received the new one today. The engine makes the same screach as the one I sent back. What can I do to stop the squeal.? I had to wait 5 weeks for the last replacement.I use mine without DCC and have to put dummy pins in the decoder.  ???

Hello gang,

I just bought a(BEAUTIFUL) 2-8-0 with belt drive and it makes a "hiss" kind of sound. I was wondering if that is normal? NOT a squeak or squeal, a hiss? It is my first new engine in a while so I am not sure what they are supposed to sound like.

Thanks

Chris

Can anyone recommend a good source of instruction for lubricating HO steam and diesel engines. I have several older pieces that need maintenance. I think I killed one of them after attempting to oil it. I lubed the motor and all I get is smoke now. The engine ran fine until I did that. Is there someting I can do to save the motor? (it is an old Mehano from Yugoslavia)

If anyone has a source or advice on lubricating the motors I would appreciate it.

This is a great forum!!!

Ahhh, the roadside inn is a classic. Are there any apartments available? It looks like a great little town. Nice work.

Hello all,

I have set up a layout for my son and am digging out my old stash of trains. I have a 4-8-4 Daylight that I purchased in 1994 but never used.

( I bought it because I always wanted it but could not afford it as a kid, hoping that someday I would be able to use it)

Well someday has arrived. When I run it it will run for about five minutes and then it stops. The headlight remains on but the motor remains quiet as a mouse. Does 14 years in a closet affect these things?

Is there a short/bad connection that is common with this train?

Thanks,

Chris

HO / Early 90's 2-10-4 running problems.
December 28, 2007, 08:26:31 PM
Hello All,

I have a Bachman C & O, 2-10-4 that I bought new approximately 18 years ago. It has never been used. I set up a layout for my son for Christmas and dug it out from my parents house.

Problem 1. When the train starts up, the last set of wheels, the ones with rubber on them split apart causing the train to stall.  I press them together but it keeps happening. Is there a fix for this?

Problem 2. I am unable to connect the tender to the engine. The tender has a small post on it but the engine has no hook to attach it to. It also appears to have an electric plug mount inside the cab.  What am I missing? is there a missing part? The Engine is a real beauty. I bought it hoping to use it someday and 20 years later..... ???
