Large / Bachmann steel track

I have a terrible time trying to put the steel bachman track sections together.  The rail wants to push the other rail in the ties and not slide the sections together.  Is there a secret to doing this in an easy way.  I am use to O gauge track and it goes together easy.

The CN just put in new rail in our town and the sides of it have some kind of oxidation on them.  It is a dirty grey and that is the color I would like to use but do not know enough how to mix paints to get that color.  With 4 grain cars every day the tops of the rail do not get a chance to rust.

It is for the silver bachmann rail and I want it to look like new rail, shinny on top and the dark grey color on sides and it is for the base display I will make for my K27 kept inside.

does anyone have a recomendation for a paint that would look like the sides of new rail.  I looked at it today in the yard and it is a hard  color to try and figure out how to go about mixing it.

If I buy a standard 1.22 size bachmann box car, wil it be scaled for standard 4 ft 8.5 inch track or will it be 3 foot narrow gauge.

Yes on a display.  I get all the ballast on as I want and then spray it with water with a drop of dishwasher soap in it and then apply a mixture of 1/2 elmers glue and i/2 water.  Overnight it will be as hard as a rock and look nice and loose just like you applied it.

who makes a scale sized g scale ballast.  I want to mount my track for my K27 on a walnut board with scale sized ballast of the type used by the D&RGW.  Thanks in advance for any help and where to buy the ballast.

doesnt anyone make dry transfers so you do not have to see those white air bubbles and also have to airbrush over the decal to hide it.
