How about Microtrains Z scale couplers? They would definitely look better on these little engines.

Are there any pictures of these locomotives next to current Bachmann Products? Maybe the 2-8-0 or 2-6-0?

I would love to order one of these through my LHS, but it may be too big for my layout.

No problem weathering. I usually keep the "road engines" cleaner, but it always makes it look nicer to add some sand and road grit on the lowers of the locomotive. It also makes the details pop!

My Porter, though, looks like it has been used and abused.

Or could you use this mechanism for a GE 70 Tonner? That would be a nice addition, too.

Okay, okay -- let's not get crazy here -- you can't tell me that once you see one of those cute little things you won't be snapping them up. Come on, how could you resist? Your heart will melt when you first see these little guys pulling a freight car or two. 

They are six months late -- I want to see them, too. But, fortunately they are unlike the Decapod -- at least they are not cancelled.

I recently have discovered the joy of sound in On30 locomotives. I have purchased the MRC Blackbox, which allows me to hear sound in my locomotives (The only sound loco I have is the PSM Goose).

I currently have tons of Bachmann On30 locomotives that are painted and weathered. I want to upgrade some of those to sound (not all). Does Bachmann sell the plug and play Tsunami decoders for their On30 locomotives? If it can be helped, I was trying to avoid having to solder connectors on the decoders in order to get sound in the locos.

I see that the Pacific Coast Air Line Railway website mentions that he got a decoder from an HO Bachmann 2-8-0. Are those sold separately through Bachmann?

Actually, you can easily make this nice looking loco from the current inside frame 4-4-0. It would be a fun project, so long as you can get past chopping up an expensive and perfectly fine engine.

I use cork roadbed for my N scale layout, as it represents a mainline railroad. I don't use roadbed on my On30 layout, because it is supposed to represent a backwoods cheaply made railroad.

To answer your question, it depends on what kind of railroad you want to model. Hope this helps.

As for your shorting shay, you may want to check to see if the T-boiler bottom is touching the railheads at all. I know I had a few mismatched railheads and the T-boiler got hung up on them. They don't have to be that much off, as the clearance isn't that much.

For my O scale standard gauge interchange siding, I purposely bought an Atlas  2 rail reefer car for a more realistic look.

Yep, that is about it. On30 is O scale, 30 inches between the rails (standard gauge is 56.5 inches between the rails).

I have an On30 layout in the works and I put a siding with a regular O gauge 40 foot reefer to represent a narrow gauge to standard gauge interchange. I was amazed at how big that reefer was in relation to the narrow gauge equipment.

Neat stuff, this On30.
