I think NM meant to say 8 foot diameter track above. Large scale curved track is measured/sold in the curve diameter and not radius like in the smaller scales.

Since you are planning on a more or less permanent layout and need lots more track, I would stick the Bachmann track away to go round the christmas tree and go with all brass. It will last much longer (almost forever) and you could even bump up in diameter size. Bachmann track is four foot diameter, the minimum suze for most rolling stock. Going up in size to 5 foot or even 6.5 foot diameter size (if your plan and room permits it) will put less strain on the engines and allow you more options for running other rolling stock.

BC&G 2-8-0 #14 is on static display in Gaithersburg, Md next to the original little B&O station. The station is still in use as half mini museum and servicing MARC train commuters.

First off, let's not confuse pulse power and pulse width modulation (PWM).
PWM will not harm motors and most added accessory chips. It is DC power but tweaked so lights and such will start up at a lower voltage. It can cause some motors to whine but is generally harmless. My QSI sound/DCC card work fine as a sound card with PWM though I do not get the extra bell/whistle functions.
Pulse power is a different animal. It is a small amount of "leaked in" AC voltage to get the motors moving at a lower voltage.
I run two loops connected with a double crossover. Some track power, some battery powered. It gives you a chance to run multiple trains                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

That might work on flat and level track but I wouldn't do that on a 3% grade!

Are you sure that's a Bachmann track clip? I have a bunch of them in 3 different sizes and none have and writing on them.

Yes, its battery powered. The backhead of the boiler in the cab lifts up so you can put 6 D cells into the boiler.
The remote control take a 9 volt battery.
Squirt a little WD-40 into the switches on the loco and wiggle them back and forth to get the rust out as this set is around 20 years old.
Look for plastic track on eBay though Bachmann only as the plastic NewBright track in not compatible with Bachmann track.

The large wheels would be the standard replacement for most of the cars. The small wheels are usually for 2 axle mine cars. The small wheels will work in the arch bars trucks though. I have them here in a Bachmann ore car sporting Delton trucks -



Look for a dealer who will give you a better deal on the Bachmann wheels in bulk.

You could try warming the plastic a bit to make it more pliable. A hot wet sponge on it or a little gentle heat with a blow dryer might to the trick. I usually use a small thin modeling spatula.
