Were it not for the smoke coming from the stack, one would wonder if the Shay was even operable.

Looks like its being used as a boiler and not as a locomotive. But i'm hoping i'm wrong.

According to Bachmann, the ACS-64 is as-is. It cannot be modified. What a disappointment!

Everything is modifiable with the right knowledge. If you have to run wires from the contacts to the motor and headlights (Which i do no recommend since the lights are LED and not adding risistors to the wires leading to the lights will blow them) or like I did with the EM1 just use exsisting wires and mount a DCC Ready board.

Something wrong with it. Don't touch it voids warranty. Send it in to service . Should run like a Swiss watch DCC, DC what ever. 21st century motor control either dc, dcc is as good as it gets ,or should be if working correctly. No techs here just sales reps to smooth things over.

Adam

No I'm pretty sure its running just fine. The EM1 ran like a rocket right out of the box on DC. It was all or nothing. DCC & Sound & DCC & Sound Ready take up much more power then just plain DCC Onboard and I would really not run DCC and Sound on DC.

One thing to add, if the headlights are on the board you remove you will loose the lights but in the era I model it wasn't regulation to have them on during the day.

I'm not sure about the ACS but the EM1 the board was labeled telling which wire is which. the DCC Ready board was also the same way.

If you can get a DCC Ready board out of the parts store I'd recommend doing that. I had same experiance with the B&O EM1 ran full speed or no speed. I removed the DCC onboard/sound ready board and placed a DCC ready board in its place. Ran soo much better on DC.

Nice job on the Russian.

I, too, was having some difficulty viewing the photos. Dunno why.  I could view them on my phone and iPad, but not my PCs.  Weird.

Regards,

Jonathan

Thanks Jon, its weird because I posed the post from my PC Odd.

The Spectrum Vanderbilt tenders are long discontinued but you can still get this from the parts department:

http://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68_155&products_id=9968

Might take a little detail work, removal of the toy drawbar, and its short size is best for small engines.  I have one and it looks great behind the Bach Man's consolidation.  It's a little too tall at the oil bunker for the mogul, where I really wanted to use it.

I really wish Bachmann would sell the tenders by themselves again.

I used the medium version of the tender behind the 2-10-0

Over the weekend I decided to swap my Russian Decapod to a Vanderbilt tender. Came out great. had to do some wiring as the engine ran in the wrong direction but I think she looks great with the tender.

What ya guys think?

So I've had a NYC Niagara for a while, but I repainted it kinda half-butt attempt.

So here it was after its initial repaint

Really Ugly don'tcha think?

So I started repairing this tender

So I came up with the Niagara and the vanderbuilt tender I was repairing, some other modifications and some paint and......

There is lettering on the tender, sunglare from the window makes it hard to see,

Changes I did
Engine Work:
Added Classification Lights (To be replaced, just trying to justify S&H)
New Headlight
Changed to LED
Removed smoke unit
Shaved off NYC Number Plate detail on front of smokebox
New Headlight Location
New Bell
Working front coupler
Window Glazing
B&O Capital dome on Sheild.
Paintwork

Sooooo How did i do?

If its anything like the Blue/white box Niagra theres two screws under the cab, once those are out it takes some wiggling and it should come apart.

You got me wanting to get my two out and do some mods. I based mine off KK-2 7450. I might leave one like it is, and change the other around. eather way the number boards are coming off.
