HO / Re: Poor whistle choices on new 2-6-0
January 08, 2012, 11:59:13 PM
Hi Guys,

Earlier "rogerta" said that there is no whistle casting on the Also 2-6-0.  You know I believe that there actually may be an attempt at one.  Look at the auxiliary steam dome (turret) just forward of the generator.  Most locomotives equipped with such a auxiliary dome have the whistle in that location.  There are two gold painted "things" there.  One looks like it might be an extremely crude whistle.  What do you think?  Actually, I plan to remove those castings and replace them with a real whistle casting and a couple of pop valves.  Also plan to add marker lights to both the smoke box front and the tender as well as a rerail frog and a poling pole on the tender.  Adding a visor to the headlight might be enough to compensate for it's size too (rather then replacing the headlight altogether).  Otherwise a nice little locomotive that runs well and is just what I needed for the branch line on my layout.

HO / Plug and Play Sound Module
November 21, 2011, 01:53:30 AM
Hi Bach-man,

Earlier I asked about sound modules(decoders) and was told the they were built into the  electronics boards of the respective locomotives and not available separately.  I guess I was using incorrect terminology.  I should have asked about Plug and Play Sound Modules.  My question - Will these modules be available for additional locomotives (other than the two now available)?  Do they have a standard eight pin plug or a different type of connector?  Just trying to get a feel for what they are like.  Thanks.

On30 / Paint match

For the Bach-man:

I need to match the paint on a Bachmann Rail Bus.  The color is Pullman green, coach green, olive green or something like that lettered for Colorado Mining.  Can you recommend a source for the matching color?  Commercial, if possible.  Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: Edible scenery

Hi Guys,

Several years ago I discovered that several of my HO scale trees had "fallen" - couldn't figure how.  One night I entered the basement trainroom and spotted a field mouse (my house backed on a wooded area) gnawing away on a tree.  Close inspection showed ther the trees - similar to Scenic Express Super trees, but from an private supplyer) had seeds.  By that time there were lots of lumbering operations evident.  Traps were only partially successful.  I think that the mice liked peanut butter and knew how to outsmart the traps.

My neighbor offered her cat.  While the mice had caused damage, imagine what a 12 pound cat running around the layout would have done.  Well, finally I baited the traps with country ham.  That did it - caught them all - must have been country mice.  Had no trouble after that.  My present layout is in my attic. and no bats in evidence after ten years.

HO / Ma & Pa 4-6-0 #28
November 09, 2008, 02:26:50 AM
Mr.  Bachmann,

I see that your new Spectrum ten-wheeler with sound lettered for Ma & Pa is numbered #28.  The older one, without sound, was numbered #27.  Is the new sound equipped model the same as the older one just with a different number or is the model actually different?  The two prototype locomotives were different with respect to the cylinders, plumbing and other details.  If it is different (really a model of #28), I would be seriously interested.

Thanks,

This is for the Bachmann, but someone else may also have the answer.  What paint brand and color will match the Spectrum On30 combine (green)?
I need to do a little kitbashing and want to avoid rerepainting the whole car if possible.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi,

I have a couple of leapfrog units that I used for the old SOUNDTRAXX IR throttles too.  I also still have a couple of SOUNDTRAXX throttles.  Don't use them any more since I switched to DCC.

Contact me off-line.

On30 / Re: Soundtraxx Bachmann 2-8-0
August 20, 2007, 04:52:26 PM
Hi Giys,

Actually, the Soundtraxx box (which slips over the Bachmann box) says "Tsunami Equipped".  I know that the sound equipped Bachmann locos say"Tsunami technology".

Another clue is that the Soundtraxx distributed locos appear to have Fireman Fred while the Bachmann sound equipped locos do not.

It doesn't really matter as the sound is great either way.  I was just curious.

Thanks,

Bill

Yes, I have the Soundtraxx version.  So I guess the answer is a full Tsunami, which is what I figured.  This is a good deal since the Soundtraxx version is only about $60 more than a non-sound version.  Thanks for the replies.
